Historic Wins to Hensman in Both the Ladies and Mens State League Grand Finals In a first for Hensman Park (and we believe for only the second time for any club), we have won the Ladies and Mens State League titles in the same year. Our Ladies team were locked at 2 all (and 4 sets all) with Peppermint Grove after the first 4 singles but had a 6 game lead. When Hayley Burton and Lily Fairclough won their doubles 6-3 6-2, it meant that the Hensman lead was unassailable. The winning team of Gayle Leong, Anja Dokic, Lily Fairclough, Ella Nurkic, Ksenija Vukacic and Hayley Burton (Capt.) are pictured with team manager Trish Haffenden and coach James Connolly. In addition, Nadia Rajan was also part of the team before returning to college in the US. These girls have worked really hard this year, are fantastic people and have represented the club impeccably. The last time Hensman won the women's title was in 2013. The Mens team beat Dalkeith on games winning 2 singles and a doubles in straight sets. It was an incredibly close match and the large crowd at Dalkeith were kept enthralled with a fantastic standard of tennis. This is the third straight year we have won the mens event. The team pictured is James Newton, Matt Burton, James Connolly, Ethan Cook, Evan Manso, Zach Itzstein (Capt.) and Rhys Johnson. Thanks to the support of Trish Haffenden, Mark Leuba, James Connolly, Ellen Lynch and Di Cousins for helping the teams as managers, coaches and yoga instructors!! Also thanks to our key State League team sponsors Ian Hutchison Real Estate, Team Tennis WA and South Perth Travel. |

Know Your Board Member - Trish Haffenden Trish joined Hensman after playing at South Perth for a couple of years. She took on the Junior Development Co-ordinator role in 2004, eventually became Ladies Captain in 2014 and has now spent 17 years on the Board. Trish enjoys the sense of community, the friendships involved when you have a shared interest and the fun. Trish's favourite shot is the one that wins the point and her tennis highlight was being part of the Governor's team. To improve the club, Trish would like to see better recognition of our female players both young and old and of the work that has gone on behind the scenes by many of our senior women members. Trish is in awe of our Women's State League players. They are not only awesome players but are loyal, committed club members.
A little known fact about Trish... she became a Cricket Australia accredited coach in 2004 and coached junior cricket. |

Modern Physiotherapy Located in the Southshore Arcade in Mends Street, South Perth - next to Ian Hutchison Real Estate. It comprises 7 staff which includes 4 physios & 1 podiatrist. The business has been operating for about 5 years & provides the full range of physiotherapy services, from diagnosis to rehabilitation & pro-active coaching for its clients. What differentiates this business from others is that all its physios are post graduates & involved in various sports. The practice provides Radial shock-wave therapy at no additional cost to its consultation fee which is ideal to treat tennis elbow & heel problems. One of their staff, Sam, was the Head Physio of the Chinese Olympic team & is one of only 80 "Specialist" Musculoskeletal physios in Australia.
This is the first time Modern Physiotherapy has sponsored any organization- previously relying solely on referrals & word of mouth recommendations. They are supporting our Club because we are involved in sport & they want to give something back to their local community.
COVID has had minimal impact on their business and they have adopted a meticulous hygiene standard across the business to ensure the highest standard of safety.
Our Club can help Modern Physiotherapy by promoting its services to our members & referring its services to our family & friends. Hensman members are eligible to receive a 10% discount off all consultations & ongoing treatments, except specialist reviews.
The business is open from 8am to 6pm on Monday to Thursday, 8am to 1pm on Friday, & 8am to 12 noon on Saturday. Phone 616 106 90 for your next Physio appointment.
