What's the coolest thing you've ever done?

Falconry is not something that was listed in my undergrad or grad-school course catalogs.  (But how cool would THAT have been??)  So when my husband and I had the opportunity to engage in some medieval man/animal bonding on a visit to Ireland in 2012, we jumped at the chance.

OK -- to be honest, I hesitated at first.  Would the unique value proposition ($$ cost for 75 minutes flying hawks outside a castle in Cong) be worth it?  I have a bit of my father's frugality in me, and I wasn't sure if booking this experience would be worth the money.  Eddie convinced me to take the plunge, and we booked our falconry class two months prior to traveling to Ireland.

Freakin' awesome.  Loved it.  Can't wait to do it again.  The instruction provided by the charming Irish falconer followed by the actual handling of the hawks (they're easier to train than falcons) was out of this world.  The sheer thrill of launching a powerful bird with a four-foot wingspan -- and then having it return to my glove (enticed by some raw chicken meat) -- was unlike anything I've experienced.  By far, it is the coolest thing I've ever done.

Now it's your turn: my December newsletter will feature your responses (just a sentence or two will suffice).  I cannot wait to hear about the most interesting thing you have done.  Click on my email address at the top to respond!

One-Minute Estate Tip

Search for "unclaimed" assets in your loved one's name now and on an annual basis after the estate closes.  Many assets won't be escheated for 10 or 15 years after the owner has passed.  Checked the unclaimed assets website for every state where your loved one resided; you should also check the national pointer database in case an asset is being held in an unexpected state.

Craft Beer Corner

Sample your way through the breweries of Wildwood & Cape May

Here are a few of our favorites from a recent road trip:

Mudhen Brewing Co., Wildwood (see photo) - Enjoy excellent food and a nice selection of craft beers in a chic, converted motorcycle garage.  We shared a flight of 4 beers, all tasty.  Nice swag at the gift shop!

Gusto Brewing Co., North Cape May - Located in an underwhelming strip mall, this bring-your-own-food establishment features indoor and outdoor seating.  They pride themselves on being small and weird.  I tried my first black IPA here!

Cold Spring Brewery, Cape May - We went on a cold, rainy day (with inside seating not yet permitted), but the covered, heated picnic area and quality beers made the experience very enjoyable.  Co-located with Historic Cold Spring Village.
