The Hidalgo County Employee Wellness Program is pleased to announce the winter Wellness Fair! This event will be held on Friday, December 9, and Saturday, December 10. On Friday, December 9, the event will be hybrid, being held virtually and in-person at the Precinct 2 Indoor Sports Complex on 3600 Athol Street in Pharr. On Saturday, December 10, the event will be held in-person only at the sports complex. We welcome employees to have their families and dependents attend the event on that day. Registration is now underway for the virtual event. If you attend in-person, you will register at the sports complex upon arrival. |

Holiday Health Maintenance Challenge |

That's right! The next wellness challenge will take place from November 7 to January 16! Yes, during the holidays. Which makes it an excellent opportunity for a wellness challenge! However, we believe it won't be too hard. The only requirement is to stay within 2 pounds of your initial weigh-in during this challenge. |

You can also join us for the BONUS challenge which will be to walk 10,000 steps per week or attend two of the free fitness classes Precinct 2 offers at the Indoor Sports Complex in Pharr. Scan the QR code below to submit a record of your participation. |

H-E-B Demonstration at Precinct 3 |

On October 6, the Employee Wellness Program hosted a Lunch & Learn Cooking Demonstration at the Precinct 3 Conference Center. Stephanie Cowart, a registered dietitian from H-E-B Nutrition Services, presented healthy lunch alternatives. |
|
|
Cowart put together a delicious wrap that consisted of turkey, spinach, diced green apple, and roasted honey mustard. Then she prepared a greek salad with tuna that included H-E-B Mediterranean lettuce blend, tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta cheese. Some employees joined Cowart to make their own sample while she was discussing the H-E-B dietitian services that can be provided to Hidalgo County employees and their dependents who are covered by the county's medical insurance. |

The Wellness Program was invited to present to staff members at the District Clerk's Office on October 14. Diana Salinas discussed the resources available through the Wellness Program. She highlighted services that included Deer Oaks Employee Assistance Program, programs provided by Aetna, H-E-B Nutrition Services, and the free fitness classes at the Precinct 2 Indoor Sports Complex. |

Health Talk: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease at Precinct 1 |

Last week, the Wellness Program was invited to Precinct 1 to host a Health Talk with a specialist from DHR Health. Dr. Guillermo Duran, a clinical research coordinator, spoke about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The doctor discussed with attendees how the liver functions, what it does for the body, and what technology is available to detect the possibility of fatty liver development. If you are interested in having a health professional speak to your department, reach out to your department's wellness ambassador or department head and have them fill out the following request form. |

Did you know you have access to H-E-B Nutrition Services if you're covered under the county's medical insurance? County employees and their dependents may be eligible for up to |

26 visits a year with an H-E-B Registered Dietitian. If you have diabetes, you are covered for 10 sessions with a dietitian. However, you must have a doctor's referral. If you have a BMI of more than 25, you are covered for 10 sessions. If you have a BMI of more than 30, you can make up to 26 visits. Get help with not only weight loss, but also with food allergies, athletic performance, digestive support, and more! The Employee Wellness Program is available for weigh-ins to provide BMI measurements to you to see if you are eligible for H-E-B Nutrition Services.
