A resource for teachers and learners, a quote to inspire, and a question to ponder. It really is the little things we do consistently that lead to great outcomes.

Just Write!

I'm wrapping up the development of a professional development course, Introduction to Teaching Adult Literacy. In my research for course resources, I came across the Just Write! Guide and accompanying TEAL 12 Fact Sheets (American Institute for Research, 2012).

The guide intends to increase familiarity with evidence-based writing instruction and enhance the quality of instruction delivered to adult learners. These are excellent research-based resources for all educators who teach writing.

You can access each TEAL Fact Sheet by clicking on the following links:

Your Weekly AI: Writing

Last week I shared the link to Brent Warner's profile, a professor of ESL at Irvine Valley College in California who has some sound ideas for how to leverage AI for language learning and teaching.

Brent's article Building Prompts and Building Language: 3 Activities to Practice English While Building Prompts for ChatGPT offers examples of using chatbots with students of all levels to scaffold writing and engage in interactive activities.

I discussed similar approaches to using Chat GPT for modifying and scaffolding writing in a recent webinar. Below is a screenshot of an example. You can watch the recording of the IPDAE webinar here: Teaching Writing: Editing and Collaboration

Question

If you were able to write about anything, what would it be?

Until next week,

Ramin aka "Dr. Yaz"

p.s. Happy Flag Day USA!

If you find value in any of this week's resources, please subscribe and forward this newsletter to someone who may benefit. Thank you!
