SURPRISED BY THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

By Asst Ps Lai Keet Keong

The recent revival in Asbury University, Kentucky, has caused quite a stir and interest about the amazing presence of the Holy Spirit within the Christian community. Likewise, we are sensing a shift within our church services since the beginning of the year as we go through the book of Acts in our pulpit and CARE Groups.

However, should we be surprised at all by the presence of the Holy Spirit?..............

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)

Safe distancing measures have been lifted, and we are now able to conduct our Annual General Meeting (AGM) physically in church. The AGM will be held on Sunday, 2 April 2023 at 12.30pm in the Peace Sanctuary. The Council strongly encourages all members to attend this year’s meeting. Lunch ($5 per person) will be provided at 11.30 am. For catering purposes, please click here to register for lunch by 29 March 2023.

In view of the fact that further amendments (required by the Registry of Societies and by the Ministry for Culture, Community and Youth) are to be made to the Church Constitution this year, the Council has decided to allow proxies (on an opt-in basis) in order for members to be represented at the AGM. Under our Church’s Constitution, a quorum of at least one third of the total membership as may appear in the Register of Members is required before the AGM can proceed. Hence, in order to ensure that we can proceed with the AGM on a timely basis, members who are unable to be present physically for the AGM or who are unsure if they are able to make it to the AGM are encouraged to submit a proxy form so as to help form the quorum.

The Notice of Meeting, together with all the AGM documents, will be emailed to all members by 18 March 2023.

CAMBODIA MINISTRY 10TH ANNIVERSARY THANKSGIVING AND CELEBRATION

“With joyful hearts we are organising a Cambodia Ministry 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving and Celebration program on Saturday, 11 March 2023 at our place in Prey Veng. Through the program we want to glorify God and give thanks to Him for His love and ministry among the Cambodian people, to show appreciation to Love Cambodia for their partnership in ministry, and to our neighbours for their support.  Some 200 people will be invited, including Elder Chin Tiong representing the Bible Church, our household group of students, the interns’ parents, student alumni, Love Cambodia staff, and our immediate neighbours. Please PRAY for smooth preparations/running of the program, and that our ministry will continue to make disciples and impact lives of the Prey Veng community.”

UPCOMING MISSIONS TRIPS TILL JUNE 2023

Please click here for some details of the upcoming mission trips.

The exact dates for some of the above trips are to be confirmed. Please check with the respective contact persons about the dates and programmes or you may contact Asst Ps Gift Daniel at giftdaniel@biblechurch.sg.

During the second half of the year, we plan to send mission teams to Nepal and to selected locations where our EquipAsia training is going on. These teams will be smaller in size and may include travel to remote places and have a specific ministry focus. If you are interested to go for mission trips to Nepal or to EquipAsia countries, please contact Asst Ps Gift Daniel.

Pre-Mission Trip Training

To derive the maximum benefit from the mission trips, we have certain guidelines for mission trippers. One of them is to attend the pre-mission trip orientation cum training session. The training provides an overall understanding of missions and attempt to address questions such as: Why go on a short-term mission trip? What are the Do’s and Don’ts of a mission trip? What can you expect from a mission trip? How to avoid turning a mission trip into a holiday trip, etc.? All our mission trippers are expected to go through this training. Please participate in the training even if you are not sure of your participation in a trip, but are considering a trip in the next 2 years.

Date: 6 May 2023 (Sat)

Time: 10.00 am – 12 noon (on Zoom)

More details on the registration of the mission trips will announced at a later date.

EQUIPASIA TRAINING (13 FEBRUARY TO 4 MARCH 2023)

Thank you to the many volunteers who have helped in the running of the EquipAsia (EA) program as we hosted 20 EA participants from 5 countries for the last three weeks. Many CGs have hosted them for meals, some members took them out for meals, some sent fruits, others helped with the teaching practicum, provided technical support, donated needy items and including the team of teachers who journeyed with the students and the hospitality team that took care of them.

Thank you for your love and care to the foreigners who were in Singapore. The EA students were touched by your love and hospitality. Most of them have graduated and returned to their respective countries on 5 March (Sunday) with many fond memories of our warmth and fellowship. May we continue to declare His glory to the nations through our words and deeds.

RETREAT CENTRE FOR LENT

To facilitate an extended time of reflection this Lent season, the church is opening up the studio at 1A Jubilee Road to be booked for personal retreats.

While we may be familiar with retreats involving structured worship sessions, a speaker and discussions, a personal retreat is slightly different. It is a practice of setting aside time and space to focus on your relationship with God and how this relationship impacts your overall well-being. The extended time spent isn’t necessarily about intense Bible study, but more about being intentionally present with the Lord. The goal of retreat is to become a lover of God, to be loved by him, and to be open to the Spirit’s leading.

If you are interested, please click here and state your preference for a 3D2N slot starting 22 February (Ash Wednesday) to 7 April (Good Friday). There will be a recommended love gift to help cover the cleaning and use of the studio.

For more information, please contact Tan Beng Hwee at benghwee@biblechurch.sg or Leong Pei De at leongpeide@gmail.com.
