Happy New Year!

Guess how we brought in the New Year? On the couch...curled up with a few JackS. Wade & I introduced the kids to a few classics this Winter Break. This particular evening, we watched Turner & Hooch. A classic Tom Hanks movie from the 80's. None of us had seen it, and half of us were crying. Shocking. Sydney and I had tears streaming down our faces...Lord, she is just like me.

Another great classic we finally showed them was National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. We all watched it probably 4 times, and I watched it by myself another 3. It was after all, 'Tis the Season! Just last week, Jackson said a line from the movie, right in front of Wade & I...he yells "Holy Sh*!"   My eyes grew wide as saucers and I just gave him the stare down, meanwhile Wade is doing the best he can to keep the laughing stifled. I told Jackson, "That is a bad word and you can't use it at school. Do you know what sh*! is?" His reply, "No. But I hear kids say it all the time at recess." He is in 3rd grade! What?!?!? I told him it is poop. He laughed even more. We very much monitor what our kids are exposed to and as much as I do cuss as a sailor .... I never do in front of Sydney & Jackson.

One of my New Year's Goals is to swear less. I have a few more goals in mind for this year as well. Many of them focusing on my overall health, I am closer to 38 than not...and I am not getting any younger. I am finding it easier to say no to the things that don't bring me joy or serve me or my family. It is hard as a major people pleaser. Sydney is getting older and seems to be struggling more with life. Together, we are doing a prayer journal and I hope that as she moves forward in her life it becomes a habit for her.

As you continue to go into the new year, I hope you focus on things that bring you joy. Focus on things that serve you and your family in a positive way & look for the blessings!

We hope that you have a great week!

Can dogs recognize voices?

Do you think that dogs can recognize your voice? I know many do, at least our puppies do. I have had multiple owners over the years message me or reply on our social media story that "______ immediately perked up when they heard your voice."

Dogs are amazing creatures and just like humans, that voice can help calm & soothe.

What I am Reading & Watching

If you need a book that will literally put fire in your soul, this is it. I am a huge David Goggins fan and his life and mindset are compared to none. Reading this at the beginning of the year has helped me jumpstart my goals.

Jack Reacher is an awesome series on Amazon Prime. It is pretty intense and graphic, but since I read the books I knew what to expect. Currently, you can watch Seasons 1 on Amazon Prime Video.

5 Ways Pets Help Your Mental Health

I found a great article from Heart.org on Pets & Mental Health.

Take a look!

  1. Pets can reduce work-related stress. Two out of three employees say work stresses them out and 40% say their job gets in the way of their health. Studies show that pets in the workplace help reduce stress and improve employee satisfaction.

  2. Pets can help increase productivity, wherever you work. When a dog joins a virtual meeting, group members rank their teammates higher on trust, team cohesion and camaraderie.

  3. Pets help manage anxiety. Now more than ever, many people are feeling anxious or struggling with mental health. Pets provide companionship and support.

  4. Pets can help you be more active. They give you a reason to get outside, get some fresh air and get active, which is proven to improve your mood, sleep and mental health.

  5. Pets provide a sense of togetherness. The bond with a pet helps you to not feel alone. When owners see, touch, hear or talk to their companion animals, it brings a sense of goodwill, joy, nurturing and happiness.
