Academy Caller a newsletter for our academy community OCTOBER 9, 2020 |

Dear Academy Students and Caregivers, I hope this week’s Caller finds you well. I’d like to extend a thank you to Mary Leary, who has been taking on so much in her new role of Administrative Assistant, including moving this Caller online! We cannot thank our entire community enough for the start of the school year: hybrid students have been incredibly diligent with distancing and masking guidelines, remote learners have been working hard to learn and connect in a way that feels safe and responsible to them, our families and caregivers, without exception, have been supportive of our students and staff, and all of our teachers and assistant teachers have embraced the challenges involved in teaching both in-person and remotely, with some people filling roles they have never filled before. This year, though remarkably challenging in many ways has highlighted many silver linings that I have been making a concerted effort to focus on. Our experience with new technology tools can allow us to be connected on a wider, global scale more than ever before, and it has allowed us to streamline and diversify our means of communication with students and families. |

This year, though remarkably challenging in many ways has highlighted many silver linings that I have been making a concerted effort to focus on. Our experience with new technology tools can allow us to be connected on a wider, global scale more than ever before, and it has allowed us to streamline and diversify our means of communication with students and families. Our teachers have embraced ways to teach outside, and take full advantage of the acres of forest and natural space around us; and we are all developing new levels of comfort, love and stewardship of the world around us. Students are connecting and engaging with their class in truly remarkable ways - our small class sizes and inability to mix with other groups have fostered a true sense of community in our classrooms. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the passing of Vicky Linn, our longtime administrative assistant and the “queen” of Academy School. Academy School was more than a workplace for Vicky, and all the people in it were more than coworkers and students. She filled our halls with light, fun and laughter to keep us afloat, and her spirit lives on with us daily. Thanks for sharing the young people in your lives with us. Jon |

It has been so nice to hear about the adjustments that everyone in the Academy community has been making to support our learners, both at home and in the building. What an amazing effort to be a part of! As we continue to navigate this new way of schooling, please know that we are here to support whichever learning choice you made for your family, remote and hybrid alike, and that you can utilize counseling and administrative support, in addition to all the amazing things your student’s teachers are doing! Going along with this, we created a short video about some of the ways you can help your student best learn at home. Below the video link are some articles and tools that also might be helpful. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! | | |

Remembered Joy I could not stay another day, To love, to laugh, to work or play; Tasks left undone must stay that way. And if my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. We will always remember the joy you brought to all of us Queen Vicky Linn! |
