OVER 570 chalk kits were provided FREE of charge to those who registered. In lieu of a registration fee we asked participants to consider making a donation to the Fair Oaks Community Center COVID-19 Housing and Food Relief Fund to provide direct support to community members most impacted by the pandemic. THANK YOU! Chalk Festival Coordinator Susie Peyton planned the event and preparations began with volunteers who assembled and distributed over 570 chalk kits to participants eager to create chalk art at home. We extend our gratitude to the volunteers: Pam Beard; Robbie Casarez; Sheila Cepero; Joan DeBrine; Joanne Engelhardt; Elizabeth Gomez; Betsy Halaby; Kirsten McKay; Vicki Martell; Beth Mostovoy; Nancy Radcliffe; and Patricia Sehl. Participants sent in photos of their artwork and three photographers criss-crossed neighborhoods on July 4th to also photograph chalk art. We appreciate the great work of these valued photographers: Baraduin Briggs; John Danner; and Arav Mukherjee who took photographs with his drone. |

CHALK ART CONTEST This year's chalk festival included a chalk art contest with a category for adults, teens, kids and teams. Over 200 participants submitted over 800 photos of chalk art to be evaluated with the hope of being awarded one of the many prizes in each category. We thank judges: Sheila Cepero; Gloria Acevedo Cooney of University Art; Mara Grimes, Betsy Halaby; and Redwood City Art Commission Member Jason "Gadget" Newblanc. Participants created delightful, whimsical, clever, creative, and inspiring chalk art. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the chalk art photos and want to share them with you, so please click below to see photos and names of all art contest winners and a video slide show of many photos participants sent to us. |

IN RECOGNITION OF SUSIE PEYTON Chalk Full of Fun became a reality in 2015 because of Susie Peyton's vision and passion for public art that engages the community. Chalk Full of Fun enhanced the community's July 4th downtown celebration. Under her leadership Chalk Full of Fun became a bigger and better event each year. Her willingness to give freely of her time, talent and seemingly boundless energy is greatly appreciated, and her efforts have made a difference to the foundation and the Redwood City community. Susie Peyton served as the Chalk Full of Fun Coordinator from 2015-2020. 2020 is her last year in this role, and it's past due for us to extend our gratitude to Susie for all that she has done. Thank you, Susie! You're awesome! |
