Sophie Yook Canyon High School - Anaheim, CA Rising Junior High School Structured Summer Program Participant Question 1: What health professional career are you pursuing and why? Answer: “As of right now, I am most interested in pursuing a career in pediatrics. I personally love being around and talking to children, and I feel as if I will always be a child at heart. One day, I hope to work in a medically underserved area where standard healthcare may be difficult to find. I believe everyone deserves access to medical care, and it should be treated as a basic right rather than a privilege. I want to be a part of a team that works with developing communities, brightening the futures of the youth and helping foster a healthy childhood that every boy and girl deserves." Question 2: What is your biggest accomplishment? Answer: “One of my biggest accomplishments is definitely winning my first tennis tournament. After three days, eight rounds, and a lot of close games, I was finally able to hold the first place trophy and bring it home.” Question 3: What do you enjoy during your free time? Name one interesting thing about you. Answer: “In my free time, I love reading, cuddling with my dog, and binging one too many Law and Order episodes in one night.” |

Jakob Schneider Baldwin Wallace University - Berea, OH Rising Junior Undergraduate Structured Summer Program Participant Question 1: What health professional career are you pursuing and why? Answer: “My goal is to become a doctor and specialize in the field of orthopedic surgery. Most people who want to become doctors when asked the “why” question tend to go to the immediate answer “I have always liked helping others etc.” For me the calling to this field came from my own personal experiences. My “why” came at the beginning of my senior year in high school when I tore my ACL and fractured my femur playing football. I was devastated and continuously asked the question “why me.” Little did I know it would open my eyes to the love I have for the field of orthopedics. Through the countless X-rays, MRI’S, doctor’s appointments and PT sessions it captured my attention for all this field has to offer. This process showed me that I could not only come back from a traumatic knee injury but carry this knowledge with me into this field driving me to pursue this career as a health professional." Question 2: What is your biggest accomplishment? Answer: “One of my biggest accomplishments came when I decided to take the untraditional route and attend Baldwin Wallace University instead of a big state college back in Florida where I live. This decision, though seen from most around me as a mistake, has not only made me independent but has also led to a multitude of successes for me while in college. In my eyes no one can ever go wrong betting on themselves and that is exactly what I did. This decision allowed me to venture outside the confines of my old friendships and family allowing me to experience life and learn as much as I can in the process.” Question 3: What do you enjoy during your free time? Name one interesting thing about you. Answer: “A healthy lifestyle has always been an important factor in my life. Through my numerous PT sessions, it became evident to me how important maintaining and improving joint health and having a solid foundation of muscular strength was. This led to my passion in meal prepping and resistance training every day.” |
