What's Next?

June 2020 Newsletter

In a world where we wonder, sometimes aloud, “what’s next?” we need to remember the times when “what’s next” came and God turned things around for us. If He did it before, He certainly will again.

Deuteronomy 4:9 “Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and grandsons.”

The “what’s next” moments and their resolutions of yesterday are now becoming our points of reference as we witness these strange times unfold before us. Those coming behind us, our children and grandchildren, need to hear and know that today’s crises and cries haven’t gone unnoticed or unheard.

Make them known.

Africa Updates

  • Burundi’s elections were held on May 20th without incident. A new president was chosen and is set to be inaugurated in August.

  • On June 8th Burundi’s president (who was set to step down) died of  ‘cardiac arrest.’ A week of national mourning is now under way.

  • Malawi elections are now scheduled for June 20th. These elections are a repeat vote resulting from an overturned vote last year.

  • A new church plant is set to take place in Zambia this year but implementation has been slow due to Covid19 restrictions.

  • A new church plant set to take place in Mozambique has also been delayed due to Covid19 restrictions.

  • Feeding in Malawi at the Lilongwe site has been allowed to continue despite restrictions with special permission from governing authorities.
  • Feeding in Burundi at the Buterere site has continued uninterrupted despite significant food shortages in the country due to Covid19 restrictions.
  • New Hope Academy’s opening in Burundi has been delayed due to the ongoing Covid19 and electoral process in Burundi. Our new goal is to open in September 2021.
  • Our Leadership Academy, that we had hoped to launch later this year, will also be delayed in opening due to the ongoing Covid19 crisis and electoral process in Burundi.

Where Do We Go From Here?

The unexpected has a way of turning our plans around in a way that makes us think that we’ve gone backwards instead of forwards. While some of our plans here in Africa, and wherever you are, might have changed, we will see after this season passes that everything has worked out as it should.

So, to answer the question, where do we go from here? The answer is simple: we go forward. Thank you for your ongoing prayers and partnership,
