Happy Valentine's Day!!!

The Valentine's Day Party at Salado Public Library was a success! Students and parents came to enjoy fun, food and festivities!

On Thursday,February 13th, the children brought in handmade Valentines to share with the class. The thought and creativity put into each of these Valentines made them beautiful pieces of art that now decorate our classroom.

Special Thanks!

We are so grateful to all our monthly sponsors.  Thanks to these wonderful folks, several of our kiddos are receive partial scholarships - a program that will continue to grow over the years.

Geometric Cabinet

The Geometric Cabinet can found in the Sensorial area of the classroom and is used by children of all ages. The cabinet consists of six drawers each ranging in shapes. The students using this material in our classroom are studying right, isosceles, acute and obtuse triangles as well as trapezoids and quatrefoils. This work "exposes children to a variety of gemoetric shapes" and begins "absorption of geometric figures". This work, like the map work, has pegs which help prepare younger students for future pencil holding.

Map Work

During Extended Day, the older children have been working on naming all 50 states and naming the different countries that scatter the North and South Americas. "What is unique about map work is that colors are always the same regardless of what map you look at. For example, North America is always orange and South America is always pink." The consistency of colors allows the child to memorize the pieces. "The pegs also serve a dual purpose on the map, they help to teach "pre-writers" how to hold a pencil." Another great thing about map work is that the states, countries, and continents are proportional to one another and provide a realistic example of size and shape in relationship to different lands around the world.

Our New Staff

We are so very excited to welcome our new staff! Paula Miller (right) is a retired nurse and is now our Assistant Teacher. She is "extremely in awe of how much these kids can do at an early age, they are all just wonderful." A fun fact about Ms. Miller is that she is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. Katelynn Phillips (left) is our new Before and After School Teacher. She has a certificate as a Pharmacy Technician and has been a dancer for 8 years. Mrs. Phillips' favorite foods are quesadillas and orange chicken with fried rice.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
