When I register to vote as a University student? |
Hey changemaker! Are you a college student and unsure on where to register to vote for the upcoming elections? No worries we got you covered! Well, in short, it’s actually a personal decision. If you live in a different state for school you can check the state residency law and if you have lived there for long enough you can register to vote there. If you decide to register to vote in your home state you will need a mail-in ballot, which allows you to vote on a paper ballot and mail it back before the deadline for your vote to count. If you live in the same state as your university but in a different city it applies all the same. You can always explore early voting options too! More information here. |

🙋🏽‍♀️ Civil Rights Pioneer Meet Christine Jorgensen |
Christine Jorgensen was born in 1926 in New York City as a male, but as she grew up she knew who she wanted to be a woman. In 1945 Christine was drafted into the army, during the Second World War as a clerical worker. After the war, she learned about hormone treatments and procedures that could help her make the transition. In 1950 she underwent numerous surgeries in Denmark from a doctor named Christian Hamburger. Upon her return to the U.S. in 1953, she was greeted with photographers and journalists eager to share her experience with the global community. Oftentimes, she also encountered offensive questions and rude remarks from individuals. Nevertheless, she continued to advocate for gay rights and transgender people and fought for compassion and understanding for herself and others. Christine traveled the world to speak about her experiences and educate others on transgender issues. She was a proud transgender woman and wanted the world to see that being transgender did not mean she was less than human.
