Coronation Couture Exhibition Opens May 4th
Get ready for the Coronation Couture exhibition, which will be a spectacular showcase of royal fashion and culture, happening in downtown Santa Barbara next week! The event has received notable coverage from Leslie Dinaberg of the Santa Barbara Independent, and from KTLA, and Edhat Santa Barbara, making it a must-see event.
This free exhibition offers a unique opportunity to view a full-size revival of a viscountess and baroness coronation gown and robe designed in 1953 by Sir Norman Hartnell, the Queen's dressmaker. Alongside this masterpiece, you will also view patterns, magazines, and original press photos from the 1953 coronation.
An authenticated sample of Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 Coronation purple robe of estate velvet fabric from Ede & Ravenscroft, the official robe makers for the British Crown and the oldest tailors in London since 1689, will be on display.
The exhibition will additionally showcase the official stamp signatures of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip from 1959, which were presented on an original OBE (Order of the British Empire) recognition.
As a special treat visitors can view the Queen's 1953 coronation broadcast, televised by the BBC, the groundbreaking, first-ever broadcast that was viewed around the world.
Choose between two available dates, May 4 or June 1, 2023, from 5 - 8pm and join us in heartily celebrating Hartnell's remarkable legacy.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with, and generously supported by, WorkZones, Santa Barbara.
