NGPC SHORTY'S MX

OCTOBER 29-30

NGPC Round 9 October 29-30 Blythe, CA. Back to the sandy desert terrain for round 9 of NGPC. The series utilized the moto track at Shorty's Sports Park and mixed in the surrounding sandy off-road trails around the park that made it a long 90 min. We spoke with a few of our riders on the challenges they were faced with. The track conditions were tough due to the terrain. It was constantly changing forcing the riders to search for lines the entire race with limited sight visibility from the dust.

TREVOR STEWART

6TH

PRO

Trevor faced an unexpected challenge after getting a good start with only a half of a lap into the race. He would have to fight from the back after having to pull off the track. With time lost and solid charging after getting back out there he worked his way back up to finish in the top 6.

In his words:

"I got off to a decent jump, and snuck in the inside for a good start of the race. Was 5th, made my way up to 3rd in the opening stage of the race and was fighting with the front 2 guys. Unfortunately, half a lap in small rocks stuck into the foot peg, and underneath the shifter to where I couldn’t put my foot on the peg, and was stuck in 2nd gear. I tried to get it unbound whilst riding but was losing positions so I had to pull over before the pro section to get the rocks out so I had my foot peg. I remounted in about 13-14 overall and had a lot of work to do with what felt like not a lot of time. I ran down as many riders in front of me as possible, and felt really strong. It was a very hard fought p-6. My strength is coming back and I feel like I had the bike set up great. Thank you everybody."

JUSTIN SEEDS

6TH

PRO 250

With limited track visibility it made it especially easy to get stuck on the course. Justin faced this challenge during the race. After getting unstuck he put his head down for a solid charge with only 12 seconds behind the next place.

In his words:

"Race started off pretty good inside the top ten and after we hit the pro section the dust was so bad I had to stop and wait to see anything and catering moving 20 feet hit dust again and then got stuck .  After all that I was able to push up to 6th place just 12 seconds off a top 5"

THOMAS DUNN

8TH

PRO 250

Thomas being only 5 seconds from gaining another position washed his front end out and lost some time. After getting back up he would have to charge through the dust to try and make some time and positions.

In his words:

"Always look forward to Blythe. The deep sand, canyons and hills provides a great track. Was around mid pack off the start and made a few passes on the first lap. Washed the front end about half way and lost a few spots. I charged hard the rest of the race and finished 8th. Happy to be healthy and looking forward to the last 2 races. Thank you team!"

CLAY HENGEVELD

9TH

 PRO

Clay got a decent start and had the top guys in his sight until the pro section. The silt was thick making it especially hard for the riders to set up their lines to descend down the steep cliffs that made up the pro section.

In his words:

"Sunday I got off to about a 6-7 place start. I was able to hold that down to the lower sections of the course but lost a few positions. It was pretty dusty down by near the pro section so I took my time through it which caused me to lose those top guys. I was able to ride to a 9th place finish. I feel that was the best I’ve rode in a while and it’s an improvement for sure. My bike was handling awesome thanks to Collin and the Purvines racing team. I know what I need to work on for the next races and for next year. If I can ride in the beginning how I rode the last 45 mins, I would be a top 5 guy for sure. But I want to thank the whole Purvines Racing team, Collin, Ron and the Kurtz family for all the help this weekend. Our team sponsors and personal sponsors for helping me out and believing in me as well. Looking forward to the next few rounds."
