summer hols

Hello everyone!

We took a little break in July and enjoyed the sunshine (on occasion) and also some (a little too much if you ask one of us) rain. This has been a tough time in the creative industry. It looks as though (maybe just maybe) theatres are opening up again and we are very much hoping to be involved in more in person projects in the autumn. We're definitely working on staying motivated and staying inspired. We hope you are too.

Much love,

Steph and Charlotte

our news

At the beginning of July, we had our first in person workshop. We are currently workshopping one of Steph's new plays called Relative Motion.

We were so excited to be back in the room and working in person again. Although zoom has been a gift over lockdown, Steph was definitely excited to hear her lines spoken without delay or someone having to quietly whisper "I'm so sorry I think you froze, could you say that again?"

Thank you to Krysianna Papadakis for her direction and Austin Caley.

Stay tune for more news about Relative Motion next month!

HOPE FOR THE YOUNG

From the 19th of August to the 19th of September, Charlotte is going to be completing 800 climbs (that's almost 30 climbs a day!!) to raise money for Hope for the Young, a charity raising awareness and funds for young asylum seekers and refugees seeking education in the UK.

She has this to say:

"I have volunteered for Hope for the Young for the last 3 years now. It is not only a charity that helps young refugees access education, but a community. It has filled my life with so much joy and drive throughout a tough time, and I want to ensure that other volunteers and refugees can keep having these connections. I have met many young people with so much potential, and who have overcome so much. Their drive is inspiring, and Hope for the Young have found brilliant ways to build platforms for them and break down barriers."

We are very excited and proud to support Charlotte over the next month and we would be very thankful if you would consider donating to this wonderful cause.

you might've missed...

Make sure to check out our monthly spotlights from July and August!

July Spotlight: Tiajna Amayo

We first came across Tiajna's writing when she wrote a series for the National Youth Theatre called 'Conspiracy'.

We are super excited to share a new short piece from her called 'Darling Girl' read by Nkhanise Phiri and Will Atiomo. We hope her writing inspires you too.

August Spotlight: Maxine Meixner

Charlotte met Maxine whilst watching their first show out of lockdown. During some chats over a drink and a sneaky look at her most recent published work - 'Forgetting Ophelia Deane' in Goat's Milk Magazine - we knew we had our next month's spotlight!

Appetite is a stream-of-consciousness narrative, a fractured exploration of one woman’s experience of something that, heartbreakingly, is familiar to many.

Our monthly spotlight aims to highlight the work of an artist we admire each month. We are always eager to meet new people and accept any form of writing: poetry, spoken word, monologues - we just want to hear your wonderful voices! the producing corner

There hasn't been much producing happening over the summer. However, we wanted to use this opportunity to briefly mention rest. Sometimes taking a break, stepping away can allow one to come back feeling more ready to work. We've both done this in different ways.

Steph:
I've been working on writing quite a lot over the last year. I was really fed up with editing my play and nothing was clicking. So I put it down. I put it away. I didn't look at it for four months. Yes you read that correctly. FOUR. MONTHS. And it has been a joy to come back to. Step away if that's what you need.

Charlotte:

I have found that learning new skills in this time can stop you from focusing on what you aren't doing. I've done some really interesting workshops in producing for film (shout out to wildcard!). It's allowed me to be creative in different ways and to take the pressure off.

So rest up, learn some news skills, enjoy that sunshine (or turn on that sun lamp and pop some vitamin D).
