New Mental Health Resource

It's important to find ways to prevent the impacts of stress on your body, mind, and mood. Prolonged stress can be toxic to our physical and mental health. We must take the time to identify ways we can deal with all types of stress.  Alleviating stress looks different for everyone. It's important to find what works for you and how you can use them in different situations.

For best results use a combination of all 3 types of De-stressors - don't be afraid to mix and match them to best fit your situation!

The Rhode Island Center Assisting those in Need (RICAN) is a non-profit organization in Charlestown, RI dedicated to providing emergency food, clothing, and other vital support measures to neighbors in crisis throughout the state, primarily in Washington County and the surrounding areas.

The photo on the right shows the RICAN food shelves the day after their Thanksgiving 2020 food distribution.  As we get closer to their holiday food distribution they need our help more than ever to serve the growing demand within the community.  Please consider donating any of the following to the Food Bin located next to their overhead door:  stuffing, cake mix, gravy, canned corn/peas/green beans/cranberry sauce.  Thank you very much for your support!

South County Regional Coalition Update

Raising Healthy Teens is a full-time job and we hope the Regional Coalition's quarterly newsletter helps to make that job a bit easier. In each issue you’ll find expert advice on adolescent development, trends that pose risks to a teen’s health and safety, and helpful how-to information for parents, teachers, and everyone in the community who works with teens.

Mental Health Signs

In collaboration with Healthy Bodies Healthy Mind Washington County, we are continuing to get our mental health signs all over the Chariho community and beyond!

Paper versions of the signs have been put in the bathroom stalls on the Chariho campus thanks to support from the School District. Paper signs can also be seen around the community in barbershops, gun shops, and other businesses.

The outdoor, wooden versions of these signs are also going up around the community! You might see them on your walk through the trails at Ninigret Park, at local South County beaches, maybe even while you are hanging out at Crandall Field! The next step is working with the DEM and RI Land Trust to expand our reach!

Feel free to reach out to Dan@CharihoYouth.org to give us additional ideas of where these signs can go!

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice

Our Board and Staff are committed, now more than ever, to ensure we continue to strive toward our collected mission which is to educate, empower, and engage youth and adults in order to create a sense of community, to promote wellness, and to sustain opportunity for Chariho voices to be heard. We envision a society driven toward physical and mental well-being created through collaboration, education, and activism to promote a positive community climate.

We know that we cannot achieve this promise to our community without a strong focus and investment in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

We know that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. In the words of MLK, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” and we hold ourselves to that same principle. We stand here in this time of challenge and controversy, dedicated, now more than ever, to having the conversations that are challenging to have. Join us to use our voices, our platforms, our privileges to do more, to do better, and make a constant, consistent effort to be compassionate. Let's keep learning, let's keep listening. Let's keep talking.

In an effort to continue to educate ourselves and our community, we have assembled resources that are available on our website. We also had the privilege to provide professional development on implicit bias, school climate, and being an ally to the educators of the Chariho Regional School District. We look forward to working with you to continue this important work!

Thank you,
