With the data of this first report, an important service is being rendered to the Church and to all humanity across all 5 continents, and especially in the poorest countries on Earth, as Pope Francis indicated to us when speaking of the importance of a “Church which goes forth”. I would also like to congratulate all the universities that, thanks to the research they carry out, make it possible to fulfil the fundamental goals of the Family International Monitor as a centre of analysis, research and training on the situation of the family in today’s world; we carry out this disciplinary approach from the economic, legal, pastoral, sociological and psychological point of view.
We all know the importance the Christian family as a fundamental nucleus of society, as a source of life and salvation, always having as a model the Holy Family of Nazareth, in which Jesus, Joseph and Mary lived in praise, humilty and simplicity. There is no doubt that the Christian family and the Christian household, as sources of fraternal charity, are the hope of our society and humanity. For this reason, in the University we are in solidarity with the most needy, the poorest, the sick whom God calls us to serve, help and love. One of the fundamental pillars of our university is the scientific and techincal researc in the light of the Truth revealed in Christ. This will allow us to implement, through the Family Monitor, strategies that allow an in-depth study of the scientific, human and Christian knowledge, and of the ethical counduct of the new generations.
Through the FIM we intend to innovate and modernise the task we carry out, bearing in mind the demographic changes, the internationalisation processes, the economic globalisation, as well as the new information technologies and the technological revolution produces in the field of communications, which entails new teaching and researching approaches, such as the development of bimodal, online, face-to-face and blendend learning, the research work on the family on the network, the tele-information, the self-learning centres, the so-called “virtual university” that we have already set up at the international level together with the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II for the Family, and with the Pontifical Academy for Live, currently available in 85 countries.
Therefore, the human person is the starting and ending point of our mission, and our mission focuses on the human person, and for this purpose it makes available the necessary resources to offer its scientific contribution. And since man discovers himself only through human relationships, the first and most essential of which are family relationships, it is precisely to the Family Institution that we wish to devote an important part of our work. The family, in fact, is the basic unit of society, the natural place to receive life and to protect and educate the new member of society. This is the basis of the participation of the Carholic University in the progect of the Family International Monitor. I would like to congratulate once again the network of collaborating bodies fot carrying out the first research regarding the way in wich relational and economic poverty affect family dinamics.
Likewise, I congratulate all the people involved in this beautiful project. Thanks to Professor Belletti for the great work he is doing; thanks to Father Javier Belda, who is coordinating all the University projects with the Holy See; thanks to José Alberto Cànovas, who manages the World Family Observatory here in Murcia. May God bless this Family International Monitor and may the Holy Spirit lead and guide it, for the good of the whole Church and of all mankind.
