Kerstin Roolfs focuses on themes of history and political systems, and the roles people play in shaping the world around them. She has a wide breadth of work ranging from a series of paintings that explores the movements of figures engaged in sport, collages that incorporate original phrases or seminal texts and sketches of medical specimens, to a more recent series of work through which she allows her unconscious to produce compositions and colors through the technique of automatic painting. RYBGPO (2019), at right, was the starting point for a new series, called V, in which Roolfs likened the patches of color to microscopic images that she sources and alters digitally before translating them to canvas. Kate Thomas graduated from Franklin and Marshall College and is currently based in New York, NY. During a chance incident when her pug, Louie, knocked a cup of paint to the floor of her studio, Thomas was able to observe the color of the paint interlaced with the color of her floor and chose to continue experimenting with fluid painting. She finds inspiration in natural forms, and represents earth’s minerals, elements and geodes to channel their positive energies through her work.
