A School to Nurture LA's Homeless Youth

At Crete Academy, in South Central Los Angeles, rockets are made and launched, future chess masters learn their first moves, ballerinas twirl and hope is in high supply. The nonprofit charter school, which serves pre-K to 6th-grade students experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness, takes an integrated approach to education-offering free transportation, three daily meals, mental health services and a robust academic program that allows kids to thrive and dream.
