Thousands of 1850s artifacts preserved perfectly in an aquifer under a farm near Kansas City... Check out the Arabia Steamboat Museum! |

Lately I've been drawing a picture book that's not quite announced yet, so please enjoy some close ups of a portfolio piece I made last month... |
I drew it out in pencil first, with linework and a little shading for texture and form. I use a 2mm mechanical pencil I bought at Postscript this summer, and Stonehenge 100% cotton paper. |
Next I scan it in with my Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner. I love this scanner. It was recommended by a friend, the artist behind May We Fly fine art and stationary. |
I paint in Procreate on my iPad. I create layers of paint for the different sections of the painting, then light the piece with blues and purples for the shadows and bright yellows for the sunlight. |

It's a dream of mine to design a poster for libraries. My original design had some viking squirrels running about the branches, but I like the poster more this way. Just a quiet reading spot under an old tree. |

Since I had a book come out this month, it makes sense for me to tell you all about it... *trumpet sounds* Folk's it's finally out: Potatoes for Pirate Pearl! |
Written by Jennifer Concepcion (genius), and published by Feeding Minds Press (recognizer of geniuses), this book follows Pearl, a very hungry pirate, and Farmer Fay around the potato farm for the perfect combination of FUN and FACTS. |

Elleinad Books here in Lincoln hosted a launch party on Saturday! I got to paint their windows too... 😍 |

Reading this book in a brilliant pirate accent reminds me of something... Oh yeah! The time I VISITED A POTATO FARM AS A PIRATE. As the below image of me on a tractor illustrates, it was vital that this trip occur. I'm extremely grateful to Feeding Minds Press for this fabulous research trip to farmer Tyson's farm. |

Such a great book. I'm so glad it's out in the world! Read an amazing & glowing review for Potatoes for Pirate Pearl by someone that is not me at BookLife by Publisher's Weekly: read the article. |

I got my headshots taken by Tiny Sunflower Photography! They walked around my house and we took pictures in all my favorite chairs and spaces. See you next month, CB |
