GPS Apps and Maps

March 2023 Newsletter

The paths God puts us on aren't always smooth, but we always get to where we are going.

In our many travels over the years, we’ve had ample opportunity to get lost. Before our phones had GPS apps, there were paper maps or directions given to us by friends that were meant to help get us to our destination. It’s a wonder we survived those days but here we are. Even today, the GPS can be mistaken or seem to be mistaken, taking us down strange routes that appear to be taking us nowhere until suddenly, we find ourselves “there.”

Psalm 25:10 “All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.”

It may seem you’re going nowhere or you feel lost, but as long as you’re fixing your eyes on God – His path is sure. Many times we have felt God has taken us the long way around or on the “scenic route,” but He’s gotten us there on His timetable and not our own.

 Spotlight Zambia

Current stats:

·       Our first church was planted in 2001.

·       2 churches, both in the capital city of Lusaka.

The work in Zambia began in 2001 very quickly.

Unlike other nations where we have served where registering the church has taken months, registering the church in Zambia took only 3 weeks. Our first meeting took place in our front yard in a small grass-roofed hut. When the call to other nations fell at our feet, we released the church to one of our African pastors, Richard Tumbu, who has seen the church grow into maturity.

Above is the main building in Zambia - it's been a long time coming. Our prayer is to finish this year.

Spotlight DRC (Congo)

Current stats:

·       Our first church was planted in 2002.

·       2 churches, both in Lubumbashi.

The work in DRC began in 2002 shortly after the work in Zambia began.

Our leader, Pastor Wilondja King'ombe, had been working with us since 1992. Unfortunately, in October 2021, he passed away suddenly. In the wake of his passing, his son has stepped in alongside his mother (Pastor Wilondja’s wife who worked with him to plant the church) to oversee the church. Pray for us as we all move forward.

Spotlight Mozambique

Current stats:

·       Our first church was planted in 2020 at the beginning of the Covid pandemic.

Mozambique struggled initially due to restrictions we faced during Covid but is now beginning to settle and grow as restrictions have been lifted.

Upcoming Leadership Academy in Lilongwe, Malawi

We will be hosting a leadership academy module much like the one we held last July in Burundi in just a few weeks from April 3 until April 14 in Lilongwe at our main church campus. As we did in July last year, we will be partnering with Paul and Debbie Troquille teaching a module of 6 different classes. We expect there to be 150 pastors and church leaders in attendance.

Settling Into a New Rhythm

We have now been in Pretoria, South Africa for a few months and are beginning to feel settled. Andreya has enrolled in school and is doing very well, for this we are grateful. Overseeing the works from this part of Africa has given us the ability to reach the nations we serve with greater ease than ever before. God’s path here seemed to take quite some time (I think He took us on that “scenic route”) but we’re here in His time.
