Dear Round-Up Readers, The week began with the beautiful and majestic state funeral for Queen Elizabeth, watched around the world. However, the media wasted no time in questioning the relevance of the royal family without Her Majesty. "Reality is Coming for Britain's Royals", in Bloomberg, keenly points out "the unique privileges––taxpayer-funded lavishness, no inheritance tax, immunity to prosecution—will increasingly come under hostile scrutiny," especially as Britain continues to face economic pressures. Speaking of the UK economy, by Friday, the pound hit its lowest point in 37 years-–1.09 USD as the government introduced the largest tax relief in five decades in the hopes of stimulating growth. Good news for tourists, part of that package brings back Tax-Free Shopping for foreigners! Come and visit me! On a more somber note, big admiration for the brave women of Iran, who have been protesting since last week when 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in custody of the "morality police" after being arrested for not wearing her hijab properly. Protests have now spread to more than 40 cities with the government treating protesters harshly and cracking down on Internet usage. A sad reminder that women’s rights are under attack globally, whether in the US for reproductive rights or Iran for personal freedom. If you are interested in helping or supporting, click here. Our hearts go out to the people of Puerto Rico, half of whom are still without power after Hurricane Fiona. Other news from the week... Business, Women, and Random Trends: Black Women's Equal Pay Day: September 21––more of a call to action than celebration, the sobering reality is that Black women as a whole make just 58 cents for every dollar a white man makes. But for Black moms, the pay gap is even wider. Black moms are paid just 52 cents to every dollar a white dad makes. That adds up to $2,825 each month. And $33,900 over the course of a year. And in case you were wondering, working moms as a whole (aka moms of all races and ethnicities), on average, earn just 58 cents for every dollar working dads make. 80% of Black moms are key breadwinners in their household, with a majority of Black moms (60.9%) raising families on their own.
