Some more music venues are have restarted music this week and we now have over a dozen gigs to choose from this Friday night. Last week we saw the first salsa dancing night for several months and it's back this Thursday so looks to be becoming regular. A pub quiz has restarted in Negombo and we heard a whisper that there will be one in Colombo in the next week or two - we'll let you know! This week the big event is the Gout de France, or "Good France", festival of French food. Eight of the top restaurants in Colombo are taking part, with special menus celebrating French cuisine. The festival continues all week until Sunday. Happy Diwali to all who are celebrating. There's several special lunches and dinners on offer, buffets but also a couple of set menus and sweets offers. Breakfast and Lunch Good news for breakfast buffet fans: Flow at the Hilton Colombo Residences have brought their buffet breakfast back mid-week too, so it is now available every day from 6.30am until 10am midweek and 11am at weekends. There's several brunches to choose from on Sunday but what about Saturday? Rare Bar & Kitchen at Uga Residence is offering a brunch menu on Saturdays as well. It's not a buffet, it's a la carte - but that does help avoid overeating! The Movenpick has reopened and they now offer a Sunday Lunch buffet with a wide choice of international and Sri Lankan dishes, from 12pm to 3pm. So how about weekdays? We have to eat then, too! OK, so, something spicy? How about some Nai Miris Garlic & Egg Fried Rice with Devilled Chicken, Battered Mushroom and Fried Egg from Joshua's Tree, a home kitchen offering delivery or takeaway. This dish is priced at Rs650. Mama I'm Hungry. No, not a complaint; that's the name of a new cloud kitchen, or home kitchen, which opened last month. Their varied menu offers a choice of curry and rice options, from Rs300 to Rs500 per person but these have a minimum order of five. There are also a range of fusion and western dishes for two; and four types of pot rice. Thursday is Diwali and Thali's Restaurant have a special vegetarian buffet from 11am to 3pm. Kids under 8 eat free. Indian summer have a Diwali special too, an all day set menu on Thursday and Friday in veg and non-veg options. Of course, being all day, this is available for dinner as well.

With the Movenpick Hotel reopening that means that their daily High Tea is available again, with three tiers of savoury and sweet treats, priced at Rs1,950 per person. Their Ayu restaurant is open too and on Saturday evenings they have a Surf and Turf buffet, with a wide selection of meats and seafood and also vegetarian options. The buffet is available from 7pm and priced at Rs3750 per person. Another Saturday evening dinner buffet is available at On The 11th at the Mandarina Hotel. This international dinner buffet is available on Saturday evenings and is priced at Rs2,500 per person. The big food event this week though is the Gout De France, or "Good France" French Food Festival. This week long celebration of French cuisine is being held at eight of the finest restaurants in Colombo. Each restaurant has created its own menu for the event. The full list of restaurants, and the menus, is available on the Gout de France page. One of these, from Cafe Maitland, is offered for home delivery. A number of restaurants are also doing special dinner buffets on Thursday for Diwali. These include Flow at the Hilton Residence and Navratna at the Taj Samudra. Live Music and DJs Live Music is back, with more than a dozen bands playing on Friday night! There's quite a few less on other nights, but it's great to see live music available from Tuesday to Sunday, almost every night. If you know of any gigs on Monday please tell us! There's too many gigs now to list all - you can see the full gig list on our Live Music page - but the highlights this week are Black playing at Curve Bar on Thursday night; we caught them there last week and the place was rocking. On Friday, Silk will be back at Asylum for their Feelgood Friday; Warehouse Project will be at The Long Bar and Magic Box Mixup will be at Re.pub.lk. Friday also sees The Notion make an eagerly awaited return to the stage at In...on the Green. And great news, SunsetBlu is restarting their live music nights, with a gig by Cold Sweat. Saturday is a bit quieter, strangely, but you can catch Magic Box Mixup at Curve Bar, Warehouse Project at SunsetBlu, OiC will be at the Re.pub.lk and Silk will be doing an acoustic set at The Fox Den. As for DJ sounds, It's Swanky Friday at The Attic with Hayley Dee and Kyze Music; on Saturday DJ Dirty Dzn is on the decks at Ask for Fern, and on Sunday he'll be joined by the band Miracle for Sunday Soul Sessions.

It's on Friday from 7pm but spaces are strictly limited so, if you want to go, you need to register. The Good Market is back at Colombo Race Course and CAN Market at One Galle Face. Looking ahead, the long awaited Ceylon Happy Market will take place at Havelock Grounds on 14th November, with shopping, food, a kids' area and even a barber. If you want to reserve a table, send a message to the organisers through Instagram. Onto the virtual events and on Friday morning at 10.30 you can join a discussion with Conservation Tourism Trailblazers about growing a tourism business by conserving. Later that afternoon at 2.30 you can hear The Great Big Lesson For Climate and Nature live from the COP26 conference. On Sunday evening at 5pm there's a talk about the Future of the Fashion Business, discussing innovation and how it will change the business. These are just a selection of the events that we have listed.
