I'm SO ready for the Thanksgiving holiday. Anyone else? This last month was a little bit crazy as my betas were going through my most recent draft of The Promise of Shattered Stars. I'm so glad I was able to do another round, and a special shout out to my betas. They were SO wonderful and helpful and just absolutely fantastic. More on that below. |

In other news, I also discovered Peppermint Mocha creamer. And I'm never going back. |

Beta Round #2 has been so encouraging and helpful. I now have a good vision of where I need the book to go to prep it for another round of querying in 2021. There is a little part of me that's toying with the idea of possibly self-publishing because of timeline and series potential (and the market), but over the course of this last beta round, that little part is diminishing bit by bit. Which leads me to my next point....and a HUGE update. Ahem. |

I have nearly all the feedback in for the last section, and 80% of the betas agree that The Promise of Shattered Stars should be...........a YOUNG ADULT novel. My original intention for this novel was that it was in the adult category because I wanted to write characters who were slightly older, though I knew the book would definitely be in YA crossover territory because that's what I like to read, ha. Brandon Sanderson, Kristen Britain, and Michael J. Sullivan are a few of my favorite authors, and while most (if not all) of their books are marketed toward the adult age category, several definitely fall into crossover. Either way, I'm REALLY excited about this new possibility because I do read a good bit of YA Fantasy and soft Sci-Fi. AND it opens the door to other agents that weren't options for me querying TPOSS as an adult novel. This is also not going to be a huge change either - just tweaking the ages slightly and smoothing out some edges. However, that also does put me in a little bit of a bind seeing as I've been classifying TPOSS as a Sci-Fi with elements of Fantasy. Sci-Fi isn't selling (last I heard) well in the YA market. So as it's truly a Science Fantasy, and it does have heavy fantasy elements, I'll probably start marketing it as a Fantasy with Sci-Fi elements. Which also might mean a title change. SO MANY DECISIONS. Did I bite off more than I can chew with my personal deadline being January? Probably. But hey, I'm still excited about it. Though come back and ask me in a month, ha. |

WHAT I'M READING/WILL BE READING SOON |
|
|
I was able to snag an early signed copy of this beauty. So I stopped reading Renegades by Marissa Meyer (will come back to it) to dive into this one! If you haven't read the first two in this series (Darkwind and Dawnstar), I really don't know what you're doing in your life. This world is SO incredibly vivid and the characters are just so *chef's kiss.* And the last book left us on QUITE a cliffhanger. I need to know what happens. My reviews for each: Darkwind Dawnstar |

Oh my stars. Both of these books. I've been WAITING SO IMPATIENTLY for them, and they both come out next Tuesday. I also ordered a signed copy of Rhythm of War that includes a ticket to the virtual release party. AM I EXCITED? Yes. That's an understatement. As for The Burning God, I'm pretty sure my soul may shatter when I finish it. If you've read The Poppy War and The Dragon Republic, you'll understand. This series is dark and grungy and the protag isn't so friendly. BUT I love it so much. I really don't think I'm ready for the ending, hahaha. |

I finally got around to watching Weathering with You, which is officially in my top five favorite anime movies of all time. Some of the others include (but are not limited to): Howl's Moving Castle, Your Name, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll, A Silent Voice, and Maquia: The Promised Flower Never Blooms. Weathering with You has an AWESOME soundtrack...so click the pic for the link to the Spotify album! |
