Gii first came to the US as a high school exchange student in Montpelier, VT in 1990. She went back to Thailand for university, but returned to the United States to earn a Masters degree in International Management.
Gii naturalized as a US citizen in 1999 and immediately began working for the State Department as an American diplomat. She has worked for 20 years conducting US foreign policy and representing America abroad. Her parents and siblings live in Bangkok, Thailand. Her children identify as Thai Americans, equally proud of their heritage and culture.
