As the Australian summer has now drawn to a close, we reflect back on the devastation of the bush fires, and look forward at what we can do as a community to preserve and protect our precious environment. The severity of the climate crisis has become undeniably clear, and now more and more businesses begin their journey to carbon neutrality.
As Sustainable Living Fabrics proudly enters our 10th year of carbon neutrality, it's important to be fully transparent on what that looks like for us, and show that it is not such a daunting task. Our Carbon Neutral journey began in 2010, when we became the first company to receive the carbon neutral certification Climate Active (previously known as NCOS) for both our operations and product. This means that not only do we offset the production of every fabric right down the supply chain, yet we also have our organisational practices independently audited and offset too. |
|
|
We chose to certify through Climate Active because it is the only Australian Government-recognised certified carbon neutrality. It is a clear stamp that ensures our customers both current and potential can trust in our accountability and transparency. To achieve certification, entities must measure emissions, reduce where possible, offset unavoidable emissions and publicly report on their carbon neutrality. With experts committed to helping every step of the way, the process becomes easier every year. |

To ensure transparency and accuracy when managing our Climate Active requirements our carbon footprint is independently measured by energy and carbon management specialists, Pangolin Associates. Then we are audited by registered environmental auditors. Our entire operations from Extraction of raw materials to the courier that delivers your fabric is certified carbon neutral. In the last financial year alone (2018-2019) Sustainable Living Fabrics offset 1,024 tonnes of CO2-e with the purchase of certified carbon credits to support renewable energy initiatives in the developing world. This is the equivalent of taking approximately 250 cars off the road for a year. | | |

The age of environmental accountability in business is here, the community, both local and international, are seeking environmentally conscious options, that is where the world is heading, and we must adapt to stay with it, for the longevity of our businesses and our planet. Reducing carbon emissions addresses just one facet of humanity's greatest challenge and biggest opportunity. This is the time for business and communities to come together and do what they do best, innovate, adapt and protect this beautiful world we call home, in whatever way we can. It’s a privilege for Sustainable Living Fabrics to go beyond the bottom line and take responsibility for our part in caring for the natural environment, we hope you can join us on our journey.
