This month I had the privilege of being Longlisted in NFFD's Youth Competition with a piece of flash fiction: 'Backspace.' You can check out the longlist and shortlist here. Join me this Saturday (June 22nd) at Auckland City Central Library at 2:30pm as I read it out, and winners are announced (You'll also have a chance to hear other teens read out their work). Join me this Sunday (June 23rd) at 1:00pm at Devonport's Land and Sea's Art Gallery to check out my art, and have a chance to meet other wonderful artists. We've also reached 43 subscribers in a month, which is a huge achievement. We're counting on you to keep up the momentum; please share this site and encourage your friends to subscribe! ❤️ |

BOOK REVIEW OF THE MONTH: Recently I picked up 'Fatal Throne,' a book by a variety of well-known authors. Initially, I turned to the last few pages, and when I saw the amount of research, citations, and the timeline at the end, I had discounted it as more of an informative genre than a true YA book. Boy was I wrong! These authors come together to relay the perspectives of all 6 Queens of King Henry VIII. Eloquent and endearing, this book showcases the bravery, valor, dignity, and above all regality of each Queen as she took the (aptly named) fatal throne. The book gives a voice to these women, often disregarded as consequences of a mad king's desires. Humanizing in its nature, this (ultimately) tragic story manages to pull in fans young and old alike, as they navigate the murky and mysterious waters of a court where one wrong word could pull you under. I highly recommend reading this standalone novel. It's underlying themes of quiet strength and malicious, power-hungry courtiers will have you turning pages all night. |
