April 1, 2023 How We Work The pandemic changed the way that people work, but for schools it also confirmed the importance of being together in person. As many other industries found flexibility in the workplace, schools relished the return to being on site, to leveraging the glorious mess of school life. It's yet another way in which schools are anomalous, or anachronistic, maybe just weird. At stake is the value that we place on community, the very thing that buoyed us through the pandemic, that has always lain at the center of our success. This issue of Ahead in the Count makes the case that traditional independent schools can accommodate only a small number of flexible work schedules predominantly for people in non student facing roles. The second article describes the habits of the in-person-iest adminstrator of them all, the day school admission director. |
