Workshop Presenter CertificationSeptember 24, 2022Registration: Now – Sept. 19 Workshop Presenter Certification Day is a day of learning to certify secondary-school students to be MASC workshop presenters and to re-certify previously certified presenters. MASC feels peer-teaching is a successful and effective method of training potential and current student leaders. MASC's extensive training yields student-led, high-quality workshops. Students may register themselves for this event. | | |

MASC currently has eight committee applications open: Action in Middle School; Civic Engagement; Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion; Environmental Affairs; Finance; Mental Health; Social Media; and Division 4 Committee. Each public high school in Maryland is invited to nominate one student for the position of 2023-2024 student member on the state Board of Education. In an effort to inform and educate interested qualified students about this position (responsibilities, time commitments, etc.), MASC is offering a virtual SMOB webinar facilitated by the current and past two SMOBs. Electronics Recycling Fundraiser In keeping with our green goals, MASC is proud to announce a new, environmentally friendly and responsible fundraiser designed to help alleviate the fast-growing environmental problem of e-waste. But we need your help! Simply dust off your old electronics, place them in a box, print the FREE pre-paid shipping label, and take it to the nearest FedEx to ship. 100% of the proceeds from the recycling of these items will go towards funding MASC, so we can continue to have our amazing events and conferences. | | |

MASC Seeking Hosts for Events MASC is seeking hosts for our 2022-2023 Events. The Legislative Session and Convention require a bid presentation at the December Executive Board meeting. Hosting the February Executive Board meeting just requires a completed application submitted to the MASC executive directors. | | |

MASC 2022-2023 Membership Now Open Student voice, leadership skills, networking, resources, recognition representation, friendships, and fun – are just a few of the reasons why your school's student council should join the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC). September Service Spotlight: Appreciating our Frontline Workers During the month of September, MASC encourages school-regional student councils and individuals to say “Thank You!” to frontline workers. Frontline workers are those who provide a service to the general public. This includes health care workers, social workers, law enforcement, armed forces, etc. Their jobs are often laborious and occasionally dangerous which is why it is so important we show our appreciation for our frontline workers. September 27 Seminar: Most people know how to respond to a physical health crisis, but few, regardless of age, know how to respond to an emotional health crisis. The ECPR lesson covers important aspects of youth mental illness, including how common it is, facts on suicide, warning signs, how to detect a crisis in their friends, how to connect a friend with people and resources that can help, and much more. The lesson will prepare youth to advocate for their peers without claiming responsibility for maintaining another person’s safety. |
