Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms joins the kickoff celebration for France Atlanta 2020

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms provided remarks during the opening ceremony of France Atlanta 2020 and spoke on the city's strong relationship with France and both countries’ commitment to “maintaining global partnerships in order to tackle worldwide challenges such as climate change, Coronavirus, systemic racism and the economy.”

Student Leaders in the Covid-19 Context

CIFAL Atlanta, in collaboration with MOIA and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) hosted a virtual panel discussion that highlighted student leaders and their work related to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and COVID-19. MOIA Director, Vanessa Ibarra, provided opening remarks before students from Kennesaw State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology presented their innovative solutions on how we can build back better amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jamaican Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta's PowHER International Women's Summit

Vanessa Ibarra, MOIA Director, joined the Jamaican Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta's PowHer International Women's Summit as a panelist for a conversation about women and economic empowerment with Alrene Richards Barr, Linda Eshiwani-Nate, Nadia Theodore, Miguel Southwell, and Consul General of Jamaica in New York, Alsion Wilson.

MOIA's International Economic Diplomacy Panel with Amsterdam, São Paulo and Seoul

We hosted an engaging and insightful discussion with city representatives from Atlanta, Amsterdam, São Paulo and Seoul on how each city is navigating their COVID-19 economic recovery and support efforts, and discussed innovative ways to recover through the pandemic and beyond. Thank you to Peter de Kruijk, Director, Amsterdam Trade & Innovate, Luiz Alvaro Salles Aguiar de Menezes, Secretary of International Affairs for the City of São Paulo, and Jae wook Jeong, Head of Invest, Seoul Center for participating!

MOIA had the pleasure of connecting with Consul General of Costa Rica in Atlanta, Flora Leah Venegas, who was recently appointed as the new Dean of the Consular Corps.

We also had the opportunity of welcoming Candy Nip, as the new Director of The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York and reconnecting with Gene Hanratty, Senior Consultant for HKETO. We discussed the ways in which our offices can work together to grow the strong relationship between Hong Kong and the City of Atlanta.

France Atlanta 2020: Creative Industries

Panel Discussion

As part of France Atlanta 2020, the French American Chamber of Commerce Atlanta, co-organized by MOIA and Business France, hosted a lively 3-part panel conversation about the various growth opportunities in the Film and Gaming industries in Georgia and France. Panelists shared insights on the creative industries and why both regions should be a top priority when thinking about investing and doing business in the film and gaming industries.

Sister City Highlight, Ra'anana, Israel

City of Atlanta's sister city, The Municipality of Raanana - עיריית רעננה, has connection at the heart of its strategy to combat the spread of COVID-19. The municipality implemented multiple initiatives to stay in touch with its locals using traditional platforms and social media communication.

The discussion will include how to strengthen cultural IQ and the role learning a foreign language plays in strengthening our relationships.

Biophilia Poster Exhibition Virtual Awards Show

Saturday, October 17, 2020 | 7:00 PM

BrandCulture and PosterTerritory’s Biophilia Poster Competition will announce the 4 awards winners on Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 PM EST with a pre-show beginning at 6:00 PM EST. Jon Hutson, Co-founder of BrandCulture, and Sam Eckersley, President AIGA Atlanta, will co-host the event.

 

MOIA partnered for the competition which garnered over 3500 submissions from 167 countries. One hundred finalists have already been selected by the jury and will be on display at Ponce City Market, Atlanta from October 15th to October 25th.

The Community Solutions Program is a professional leadership development program for the best and brightest community leaders worldwide. Community Solutions Fellows complete a four-month fellowship with a U.S. nonprofit organization or local government agency. The Community Leadership Institute provides an integrated leadership curriculum and individualized coaching throughout the fellowship. Fellows return home to apply their new skills through a community action project.

Mayor Bottoms Announces City to Move Back to Phase II of Reopening Plan

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Atlanta will transition to Phase II of the City’s Five Phase Reopening Plan. The transition to Phase II is effective immediately.

Mayor Bottoms Extends Administrative Orders Related to COVID-19 for 60 Days

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms reissued Administrative and Executive Orders to assist Atlanta residents and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, to be executed for an additional sixty days through October 31, 2020.

Mayor Bottoms’ Executive Order Requires Use of Masks or Face Coverings

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued Executive Order 2020-113 requiring all persons to wear a mask or a cloth face covering over their nose and mouth within the city of Atlanta in response to the rising number of COVID-19 infections. The Order also prohibits gatherings of more than 10 persons on city of Atlanta property.
