Episode 41: The Advent of President Xi's Third Term

In recent weeks, the "two sessions" have taken place in China, at which President Xi's third term was confirmed by the nearly 3,000 delegates that constitute the National People's Congress. Due to the relative opaqueness of decision-making in Chinese politics, these important events in the political calendar are relatively unknown outside China. To help listeners understand more about them, and what their significance might be globally, this week on What China Wants, Sam and Stewart are joined by friend of the show, Professor Jinghan Zeng of Lancaster University.

Extremely Informative

I have just finished catching up with the first 17 episodes. Looking forward to listening weekly. Very informative podcast by two contributors who are clearly experts in their fields. I think the two host/contributor format works really well with each taking the lead on their respective fields of interest while the other takes on the role of interviewer. It’s also great when they have special guests on as it introduces another dynamic as well as exploring other areas of expertise on China. I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone who wants to find out more about China.

A goldmine of highly crystallised thought on China

What China Wants is a goldmine of well-informed and highly crystallised thought on China, Xi Jinping and the CCP. I used to consider myself well informed on the subject, but this podcast has challenged much of what I thought I knew. This is without doubt the best podcast of 2022 in my view. Even the theme tune is excellent. Well done Sam and Stewart!
