November 2019 Newsletter #3

Hello FDDR villagers, welcome to our Newsletter!

Life is a road with many ups and downs! So was October for FDDR and especially for Tom.

As many of you know our Tom is no longer living at his favorite place. CSX made him move out. We are very happy to report that much to our surprise, they actually saved some of Tom's personal belongings.

They also hired a consultant to help with this process and they quickly bagged up most of his personal items and moved them into a storage unit. They also provided him a backpack stuffed with additional supplies and cards that said his items were going to be waiting for him at the unit. They have also prepaid 3 months of the storage unit for him.

So Motor City Mitten Mission met up with FDDR Feeding Detroit and Tom at his "new" temporary spot and we took him to the storage unit. We also met the consultant who was very compassionate and concerned about Tom's wellbeing. Tom was VERY excited to see his belongings, especially his bicycle! 😊 He took a supply of candles, one of his heating contraptions, some clothes, other small miscellaneous items and a backpack! While we're all still sad that his homes were demolished, we are very happy and grateful that his personal property was saved.

Please keep in mind, Tom's safety and well-being is our main priority. This is going to be a process and will take some time, organization and team work. There were a lot of people and organizations that have already partnered and that have worked together to help Tom with this transition and that we are confident will continue to do so. He is going to have highs and lows as he has the past couple days. But he is doing pretty good...a lot better than I'm sure most of us had anticipated. In fact, I think some of us have taken this harder than he has.

He does have everything that he needs for right now thanks to FDDR Feeding Detroit, Congregation of Every 1 and the Motor City Mitten Mission. He is very grateful and thankful for everyone's kindness and would like y'all to know that he'll be alright!

FDDR is growing bigger every day and sadly the number of homeless and hungry people is growing too, Every day we see new faces and we constantly run out of "bags of food" to feed them.

Facebook is really restricting us on both our pages until the end of the month of October, this is the message we received:

Limits have been placed on FDDR (Our main page) and also

Limits have been placed on FDDR Feeding Detroit and Downriver (our page dedicated to ZIGGY)

So to not upset Facebook and not end up in Facebook-Jail again we do our posts and live feeds on our backup page until the end of October!

You find us here: www.facebook.com/FDDR.Ziggy/

Please keep sharing the live feeds and our pages every day, on your personal page, in your groups or any way you can think of. We know and see it every day that our supporters and volunteers are Amazing people helping us help them.

Most needed winter items

The cold weather with rain, snow and ice is coming fast, very fast and we like to be prepared to help them.

If you can help us with Blankets, Tents, Boots, Hoodies, Sweat pants/shirts, Socks, Gloves, Hand-warmers, did we say Hand-warmers, Tarps, Ponchos.

In short anything to keep our family in need on the streets dry and warm.

Many of these items you can find on our wish-list or make a monetary donation via check, gift-card, Cash.me/HelpFDDR , www.PayPal.me/HelpFDDR or you can use any Debit or Credit card on our website here to help us help them!

And yes winter is coming!

Cold days and nights are upon us, imagine being  outside 24/7. It is a reality for our family on the streets of greater Detroit.

Let us come all together and collect blankets, hand-warmers, tents, coats, boots (size 9 - 13) and did we say blankets?

so that the homeless can cover themselves to warm up a bit.
