details make the difference |

As I write this, I am on the final day of a wonderful vacation in northeastern Spain. I've been most impressed by small things on this trip, an olive vendor in the market, the lion-headed mail slots on the side of the post office, and the exquisite quality of the food and the details of its preparation and presentation. It makes me think a lot about writing and how details can transform a story from something readable to something that stays with you for days, weeks, or longer. I'm sure this trip will provide inspiration for novels to come. |

While a couple of people guessed this was Paris with its broad river and beautiful bridges, this is actually San Sebastián, Spain. It is on a gorgeous bay in the Basque country on the northern coast of the country near the French border. Congratulations to our winner who guessed correctly and will receive a free signed copy of Portrait of Deception. |

I read this novel in one sitting on a very long plane flight. It's a great story about a woman who is at a point in her life when things need to change, and she makes that change happen in ways that are ridiculous, brave, and fun to follow. |
