APRIL 2022

Rally Season 2!

Since PCA launched “Rally!” just over a year ago, we have celebrated thirteen months of holidays with you, introduced all thirteen PCA Member Teams to you, and spilled all the tea on PCA events, partnerships, and plans. Thank you for subscribing and joining the PCA Rally! What’s next for Season 2? We’ll explore the “True Colors” of PCA through a new video interview series featuring each PCA Team, one by one, revealing the secrets about its colors, logo, and branding. Does CHEER SF’s red nod to more than just the bridge? What happens when you tilt your head and look at CHEER Colorado’s “C” on its side? All this and MORE during Season 2 of “Rally!,” by PCA!

National Volunteer Week

During the month of April, we celebrate National Volunteer Week #NVW, “shining a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve.” This is a week to celebrate people-power, and PCA sure has a lot of that! We learned through our recent annual surveys of teams and volunteers that this family we call PCA is made up of over 460 volunteers nationwide! But only 350 of these people participate just as active performers. We can’t cheer loudly enough for the ~175 those who devote their time in team leadership roles, on our nonprofit boards and committees, and on our non-performing Production Teams! All volunteers within PCA have a purpose and make an impact! Also, about 25% of PCA’s volunteer power this year comes from first-year volunteers! A motto we share with our rookies is: “Your Ripple Starts Today!” Because of the energy and tenacity of volunteers new and old, PCA and its Member Teams were able to mobilize tons of funds to community causes during year two of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, our combined total of *$82,715* donated to different beneficiaries across the country represents countless lives touched by our nationwide affiliation of cheerful changemakers!

True Colors by CHEER Colorado

The first team to be featured in our Rally! Season 2 video series, “True Colors,” is CHEER Colorado! Huge “THANK YOU” to CCO’s PCA Delegate and Executive Director, Kristen Turnbull, for agreeing to be interviewed on her team’s behalf. This video gives you an insight into CHEER Colorado's "true colors" and its commitment to the community. Kristen, you ROCKED! Here it is, the first of its kind: “PCA's TRUE COLORS: CHEER Colorado (April 2022)”:

PCA News

The PCA Board has been busy this quarter! In response to expected and unexpected changes, challenges, and opportunities, the Board welcomed four new Directors in the first quarter of 2022. Their backgrounds and assets are diverse and refreshingly relevant! And while PCA Board Directors do not have to be on the active or alumni rosters of PCA Teams, we are so fortunate that these four bring the combined experience of 6 different PCA Member Teams! This broad insight is invaluable to the inner workings of a nationwide affiliation like PCA. Join us in welcoming four fabulous humans to the PCA Board:

Salvador Tovar (San Francisco, CA)

Hayley Dingerdissen (Rockville, MD)

Steven Hornik (Denver, CO)

Lindsay Miller (Denver, CO)

With these epic additions, we also announce the end of an era. Director Meagan Gordon (Philadelphia, PA), who is a former volunteer for CHEER San Francisco and a current volunteer for (and Founder of) CHEER Philadelphia, has ended her term as PCA Board Director. To prioritize the needs of CHEER Philadelphia (and to plan her own wedding), Meagan exits the PCA Board of Directors at this time with grace. Meagan joined the PCA Board at the most pivotal time in our history, when PCA restructured from one body of team reps to two bodies: a strategic Board and a representative Delegation. Meagan’s service to the Board has been characterized by deep dedication, enlightened efficiency, proactive project pursuits, and a harmonizing dose of humor. Meagan has served us as the first Board Treasurer after restructure and the direct line of communication between new Board and Delegation; she was the driver behind the establishment of the PCA Pro Shop; she “wrote the book” on guiding, vetting, and admitting new PCA Member Teams; she sourced pro bono legal support for PCA and its Member Teams as we were struggling to navigate delicate lines around advocacy vs political action. We always relied on Meagan to tease apart tangles, to streamline solutions, and to lighten the mood with pithy platitudes. Meagan will remain a part of PCA through her participation in Committees, and will always be in our hearts.
