Matthew 7:15-27
Authorized (King James) Version
Jesus is Lord of Those Who Do What He says
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
To Listen to Jesus Makes Jesus Your Lord
You can easily see when reading this passage that doing what Jesus says, makes Him your Lord. In vv.15-20 Jesus starts out talking about false prophets saying that by their fruits you will know them. Fruits are what we produce by our actions. Thus, Jesus is talking about what people do in these verses.
In vv. 21-23 Jesus is saying that doing God's will gives you the right to call Jesus your Lord. It also says that to get to heaven, we need to do what Jesus says. In vv. 24-27 Jesus says that doing His words is the will of God and means that Jesus is your Lord. Doing what Jesus says in the Bible saves you from the fall of the false prophet.
The false prophet falls in judgement because he says Jesus is his Lord, but he's got no foundation; no words of Jesus, no will of God, to stand on and support him calling Jesus his Lord.
What Jesus is saying in this Bible passage is that Jesus is Lord of those who do what He says. To call Jesus Lord means that you listen to Him. Jesus is Lord over those who do what He says.
The great fall of the man who did not use Christ's words to build his ministry on in vv. 24-27, is the bad fruit of the false prophet in vv. 15-20.
In the video below, Howard Pittman says that people call Jesus Lord but don't make Him their Lord. Jesus gives us the answer in how to make Him our Lord in Mt. 7:21-27. To make Jesus your Lord, do what He says! And you won't stand in the judgement of the false prophet in v. 21. Which is to call Jesus your Lord but not do what He says.
Jesus says in this passage that you are a false prophet if you call Him Lord but don't do what He says. The true prophet answers with actions not, lip service, God's command to do His will. They do what Jesus God's Son says.
World without end. Amen.
