One can look at the beautiful lotus flower in the picture above and marvel at such exquisite natural beauty that lives among the muck at the bottom of a pond or lake. Where mosquitos and other biting insects flourish. Despite the muck and mire it sits on, despite the annoyances nearby, the lotus pushes itself up, rises above the water and opens it’s petals to the sunshine. Impervious to it’s surroundings, it just is. The life of a lotus flower has often made me marvel at the similarity with humans.
There are likely some people who have had a challenge free life, fully charmed with only happy happy days and emotions. There may be some individuals like that and bless them, they must truly be wayshowers for us all. A bright light that is steady and strong to remind us that this is actually our true state of being.
But often, we have challenges…growing up, as adults, with others, with jobs, with money, with family. A multitude of things which affect our emotions, mental state, spirituality, and eventually our physical state. And it’s so normal, and even widely encouraged, to think ‘woe is me’, ‘what bad luck I have’, ‘my life sucks because I don’t have x, y, or z’, . You get the picture.
A great deal can affect us starting with childhood, and often when I mention to people, that as souls, we chose our parents in this lifetime, for various soul agreements and challenges, or maybe to have an easier ride this time, or to help us develop character traits that we need later in life. People look at me with disbelief and remark “um, I don’t think I’d have chosen that ^%^$#@ person as my father/mother. Nope, that isn’t me.”
But this is not about laying blame to our parents, family, spouses, partners..whatever happened, did. We just need to forgive and let it go. We can reflect on the blessings and learnings that we achieved within that particular situation or relationship and develop strength from that. And this of course takes time, objectivity, and usually detachment and distance to view it from a higher level, a more ascended perspective away from our own ego. Our ego is a wonderful ally in keeping us alive, but gosh does it also lead us down a path astray sometimes.
My point is, sometimes we all reside in ‘mud’ for awhile, before we stretch up and reach our full potential, going towards the light, emanating inner and outer beauty and peace, much like the lotus flower. Who rise up on strong, sturdy thick stems. A lotus is a survivor, it pushes its way through muddy waters and finds the sunlight, and survives harsh conditions. As do we.
We all have the ability to rise above our past, circumstances and current environment. It just takes a little dedication, discipline, and help from our immense spiritual team around us. Coaching us, guiding us, cheering us on even when we think we’ll be stuck in that mud forever.
