2018: A Year of Surprises |
|
|
2018 started with unemployment and that dreaded feeling most actors have at the end of a gig: that we'll never work again. Luckily for me, things turned around and, as I rush to write this I'll be working right up to the end of the year. Steven Soderbergh's UNSANE was released much to the delight of friends and family who were able to watch me up on the big screen (and now available to stream on Amazon Prime or iTunes). And then I was thrilled (and terrified) to get straight offers for two Off-Broadway jobs. While it's very flattering not to have to audition, the pressure is on not to let anyone down - especially since one gig required speaking German and the other to sing in Welsh (neither of which is in the special skills section on my resume!) |

I spent the summer and fall playing the grieving Sophie Gluck in the wonderful Tennessee Williams' play "A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur" with Kristine Nielsen and Annette O'Toole, directed by Austin Pendleton. |

In the midst of the work, I managed to fly over to surprise my parents for their Golden Wedding Anniversary. I pretended to be the waitress at our family lunch and they didn't recognize me. I guess all that acting training paid off. My brother, David, filmed it on his iPhone (just like Soderbergh!) |

And I'm ringing and singing out the year (and the bells) in the gorgeous, festive "A Child's Christmas in Wales" at The Irish Repertory Theatre. Thank you so much to all the directors, casting directors for so many wonderful opportunities and surprises in 2018, to colleagues, friends and family for the love and support through the ups and downs of another year of living the dream ... and here's to 2019! |
