This month at WoW we have been focusing on Mental Health Awareness. 40.9% of adults throughout Utah reported symptoms of anxiety and depression in 2021 and over 51,000 of Utah's youth are diagnosed with depression. It is more important than ever to build a stronger mental health system that provides the care, support, and services needed to help people build better lives. An inadequate mental health system will continue to affect individuals, families, and communities-- especially in populations that are underserved. Every Tuesday night in September WoW invited community partners that focus on Mental Health Awareness tips and skills to come and give a workshop to our clients. These speakers included representatives from Salt Lake County Health Department, Utah Health and Human Rights, and South Valley Services. We are grateful for partners that work to help promote mental health and hope to continue to support our clients in this area! |

Samira and Megan were able to represent Women of the World at the UWON gathering at Saprea in Thanksgiving Point. The event was an opportunity for the various women-centered organizations throughout Utah to meet and discuss how we can work together to improve circumstances for the future generations of girls and women in Utah. WoW loves to collaborate with others working hard to make Utah a better place for our clients! |

This month one of our new Ukrainian clients, Svitlana, was invited to share her family's story of coming from Ukraine. She shared more about her perspective on the conflict in Ukraine and how it has affected the lives of women in her community. Ruby, one of our Case Managers, was also able to represent WoW and share about our programs, including our current open scholarship. They facilitated an incredible conversation highlighting the work of WoW and also offering advice to other Ukrainian women in the community. We are impressed with Svitlana's desire to advocate for her community and grateful to have been represented on the show! Click on the link below to listen to the episode. |

We were honored to be chosen as one of the recipients of the money raised from the Eat Drink SLC event. Its mission is to honor the entire food industry, from customers, business owners, managers, and servers to purveyors and agricultural workers. Over the years, Eat Drink has raised over $75,000 for Salt Lake County nonprofits. The event was full of delicious food and drink vendors, creative performances, and a variety of community partners! We loved meeting many new faces and increasing WoW's outreach here in Salt Lake. Thank you to Vine Lore Wine & Spirits for putting the event together and to Tracy Aviary for hosting, WoW looks forward to hopefully joining again next year! |

| | Development Director Megan is a development professional who was born and raised in Salt Lake. She has a bachelor’s degree in International Business from Utah Valley University and a background in nonprofit development and relationship management. She has fundraised and worked in over 20 developing countries improving accessibility to self-sufficiency resources. During her international experience, Megan was constantly reminded that women are consistently and heavily affected in a negative way by each global issue. Megan believes that a fulfilling life is established in service and strives to help women become the best version of themselves, reach their goals, and give back to the community. When she’s not working or spending time with her dogs and family, you can find her running or skiing in the Wasatch mountains. |

| | Case Manager Candice brings a variety of experience to her position as Case Manager at WOW. Educated in history, humanities, literature, and education, she has been an office administrator, secondary teacher and adjunct professor during her life as an "eternal student." She’s always been interested in women’s issues, highlighted by her thesis research on women writers in Uganda and her Arabic language study. She loves to travel and has lived abroad in Europe and the Middle East for years at a time. She’s excited to bring all her interests and experience to bear on behalf of the remarkable international women in Salt Lake City. Outside of work, Candice has five smart, crazy kids and has been married to a remarkable man for 21 years--the love of her life and the reason she stays sane. She loves to be in the mountains, read, cook, sew, and travel |
