Mini Acts for the Greater Good

is pleased to announce some exciting updates: (Drum roll, please!)

Refugees have no choice. You Do.

And you chose to care. That's amazing.

Our refugee art event 'Artists in Exile Near and Far: Refugee Stories Through Art in Hong Kong and Abroad' held on October 13th was a great success! We're so grateful that more than 100 people came to the event! Among the attendees were refugee rights advocates, nonprofit representatives , legislators, legal professionals, art enthusiasts, professors and teachers, students, parents, young children, and last but not least, our contributing refugee artists and cooks and their families. Thanks for everyone who came and supported this important cause!

Event Impact:

At the event, we've raised a total of HK$18,390 for the refugee artists in Greece through the sale of artwork. Here are some examples of how your donations are used by our event beneficiary Love Without Borders that operates in Greece:

100 Euros to buy a box of canvases to paint for 40 families

100 Euros to buy pampers for the families with newborns

300 Euros to pay one adult artist for his art. He sends the money to his family in Syria

320 Euros to pay for rent for a family with 3 kids

450 Euros to pay a group of children for their art which they'll be using for food

Remaining donation to provide 15 children from Vial refugee camp in Chios with hot shower, warm clothes to prepare for the harsh winter. Vial camp is one of Greek camps where refugees live in the most dire conditions.

A few thousand HK dollars were also raised for the members of Refugee Union through the sale of drinks and food sponsorship with our partners.

A word from Ms. Kayra Martinez, founder of Love Without Borders for Refugees in Need:
"I was able to go directly back to Greece and distribute that money to all of the artists. Not only is it helpful to give them financial support, but to know that people from abroad are interested in their art and appreciate their art and their stories. I think that does more than anything, more than the financial part of it... It's more about empowering. People are giving them the confidence that they mean something and that they're special, they're unique. This is really amazing. Thank you everybody. It is amazing [that people got to] see their art in Hong Kong... and all the photos I checked back were very life-changing for them."
