Hope's son, Miles spent 68 days in the NICU. During his NICU stay, Hope began pumping and quickly realized she would have an abundance of breast milk beyond what Miles would need. During Miles' NICU stay, Hope became a milk donor and donated 779 oz of her breast milk. Miles was recently discharged from the NICU. Hope plans to continue donating to help other premature babies like Miles. |

The Journey of a Milk Drop |

Have you ever wondered how donor milk is collected, processed and distributed? Here is a quick course on Milk Banking! |
Step 1 Mothers with excess milk complete a screening process which includes an application, medical screening, blood test and physician's consent. Click here to learn more about our donor screening process. |
Step 2 Once a donor is approved to donate, she delivers her milk frozen to one of our Milk Drop Depots located across the state. Click here to view a list of our Milk Drop Depots. |
Step 3 The donor milk is then transferred to Mothers' Milk Bank of Tennessee's facility in Murfreesboro where it is filtered, mixed, pasteurized, cultured, and bottled. Click here to learn more about our processing and guidelines. |
Step 4 Once the processing is complete, the Pasteurized Human Donor Milk (PHDM) is bottled and distributed to hospitals across Tennessee to benefit medically fragile infants. Click here to learn more about the Impact of PDHM. |

June was a fabulous month at Mothers' Milk Bank of Tennessee. Our team was hard at work across the entire state. We participated in four Community Baby Showers and Diaper Drives to spread awareness of our mission. I was honored to attend the Tennessee Breastfeeding Symposium hosted by the Tennessee Breastfeeding Coalition alongside Co-Founder, Helen Scott, RN, IBCLC. Thank you to everyone that visited our table there. I would also like to thank Nikki Lee, RN, BSN, MS, ANLC, IBCLC for her great presentation about Mothers' Milk Bank of Tennessee to the attendees at the Symposium. We also experienced great growth in June! I want to share my sincere appreciation to our new donor applicants. We attribute this increase to our existing donor moms and families of recipients of donor milk for sharing their stories with us. Your testimonies are the greatest tool to recruiting more milk donors and building awareness. If you are a donor (past or present) or your baby received donor milk in the hospital and you have not already shared your story with us, I encourage you to do so! Each story is powerful and can help inspire others to contribute to our mission. Thank you for your continued support and advocacy! We are grateful for our milk donors, financial contributors and volunteers working hard across the entire state to increase access to lifesaving pasteurized donor human milk. |
