Weekend Woolgathering

A newsletter from Saskatchewan fibre artist

Shelly Nicolle-Phillips with Hooked on the Prairies

What a great response I had to my first newsletter! Thank you everyone and welcome to my new subscribers! If you are enjoying these newsletters and have fibre friends that might also enjoy them, please let them know! Sharing is caring!

I have lots of exciting news to share with you in the coming weeks but let's start with this event in Birtle, Manitoba! I've been invited to speak at this 2024 Fibre Art Symposium and will be spending the weekend there taking in the entire symposium and I can hardly wait! My presentation will focus on my family and cultural ties to the art of rug hooking and the connection between craft and mindfulness as well as my ties to the natural environment as a source of inspiration. I'll also be doing a few live demonstrations and will have some vintage rugs to display. You can learn more about the Birtle Centre for the Arts and the event by clicking on the link below. I hope to see you there!

Heart Coasters

Valentine's Day is coming up this week! Here's a fun little project I did a few years ago. A great way to use up some leftover pieces of yarn and have a little gift to give to someone special! Happy Heart Day!

Inspiration Picture

During my visit to Prince Edward Island last summer, my Mom and I went picking raspberries and made some jam which I packed in my suitcase to bring back to Regina. We've now eaten our way through every single bottle and I can hardly wait to make more!

Do you want to see what I'm working on? Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram to see what's on my frame. I post there almost daily. I've been working on some itty bitty landscapes...this one is just 2.5"x3.5"! It's such a fun challenge to work so small.
