New Interpretive Centre in Milparinka
The Percy and Doris Fripp Rock and Mineral Centre
The geology was not only noted by Sturt and his men but has been of considerable interest to all who traverse the Corner Country. What better way to support the knowledge gathering of visitors than to have a space dedicated to geology.
Percy and Doris Fripp travelled around Australia pursuing their love of fossicking. Over many years a collection of about 3,000 samples of rocks, minerals, fossils and gemstones, plus Aboriginal artefacts and old bottles, was amassed.
During the 1970s Percy and Doris Fripp established Nelligen Rock and Mineral Display, at Nelligen, near Batemans Bay. The museum was very popular and its legacy continues as the collection was relocated to Milparinka in October 2022 as part of the Sturt's Steps collection.
Percy and Doris' last trip was to this area, so it’s very appropriate that Milparinka be the resting place of the display. Click here to see the updated photos from the construction of the display.
