"I hope in this new year you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're doing something." -Neil Gaiman Hi friends! Okay, it's been a couple of weeks into 2022; how are we doing? No, but really, is everyone okay? Are y'all still hanging in there? Raise of hands--who needs a reset button because they weren't ready yet? Haha! I tease! But truly, don't you think there's something magical in the fact that for one night, the entire world comes together to celebrate the beginning of something new? To ring in new aspirations, dreams, ambitions, and possibilities? Emily Dickinson wrote, "I dwell in possibility." I love this line in her poem and the act of living in hope. I hope this new year brings you inspiration, creativity, adventures, and lots of laughter. I hope you make efforts towards things and people which are important to you. And finally, I hope you find joy in your everyday journey. Happy New Year! XO Rebekah |

CookieCon is traveling to Reno March 2-5, and I am honored to be an elective instructor during the conference. I will be teaching six 45-minute hands-on workshops on creating textures on cookies. If you are attending CookieCon, be sure to add my elective to your schedule. We're going to have a lot of fun decorating, and each person will leave with a little goodie bag as well. Also, a HUGE thank you to BRP Boxshop and Busy Bakers Supply for being the official sponsors of my class. | | |

Continuing the Conversation... |

Last month, I spoke about my journey with mental health, struggles, and triumphs, as well as my "never give up" attitude and words of comfort and hope. When I was a Communication major at Brigham Young University, I studied broadcast journalism. One radio icon I studied was Paul Harvey. He was quite a legend and had catchphrases like, "Hello Americans, this is Paul Harvey. Stand by for news," or "Paul Harvey. Good day!" But my favorite line was always, "Now you know the rest of the story!" Well, my friends, here's the rest of the story. I wrote that first paragraph of my December newsletter weeks before it was delivered. When I wrote it, I was in a pretty low place, mentally, and as a way of comfort, my best friend Evi instructed me to put my emotions into words. I am not a writer, but I took her advice and started typing with no intention of sending it to anyone but her. When I sent her the draft, she immediately sent back an edited paragraph, said, "I love it," and encouraged me to send it out. So I did. |

After the newsletter and social media posts were published, I didn't expect the incredible responses. Emails and DMs flooded my inbox with words of encouragement, support, and love. Many of you reached out to tell me the newsletter inspired you to take a break during December, as well. A few of you reached out to tell me you felt inspired to submit vacation days to work for the first time in years. You expressed looking forward to time off, being more present during the holiday season! I also received beautiful messages from so many of you going through similar experiences. Thank you, dear friends, for sharing your stories and your hearts with me. I believe that a lot of healing can be found when sharing our experiences with each other, especially when we edify and lift each other up, and that eternal realization that we are truly not alone. In her most recent Netflix documentary, Brené Brown said, "You have to be vulnerable to be brave." This quote struck such a chord with me. For so long, I believed vulnerability to be a weakness; instead, it can be one of our biggest strengths. Be vulnerable, friends. Build a foundation of courage, faith, and love to support you no matter what storms life may throw your way. You are so incredibly loved. I'm repeating that line for emphasis: You. Are. Loved. Please, never, ever forget it. |
