IT'S HERE! MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR! |

Fall is my favorite, of course, but I also mean CANNOLI FESTA! Place your orders - they go quickly! Walk-ins also welcome! A portion of each cannoli sold will help support The Good Eggs Foundation! THANK YOU! |

We were able to visit our friends again at Hope, Care & Beyond, egging children with backpacks and school supplies to start their new school year! We also did an egg craft and colored faces on them! This organization provides support and empowerment to the immigrant and refugee community in Michigan. They help with basic needs, essential services, and job skills, building confidence and hope. |

HOW ARE THE EGGS SERVING THIS MONTH? (Book 3, Chapter 1 - Part 2) October - Children The Eggs continued their service to the community by collecting school supplies for kids. They collected an entire classroom of supplies and delivered them in backpacks to children in need. Benedict finally realized where he knew the little Egg from that he met earlier in the library. He used to live in his old neighborhood. He understood now that his friend was struggling, so he wanted to deliver his backpacks himself. Sonny, the new little Egg, was very excited! The Eggs also called Eduardo from Chile and Paison from Zambia, from their travels last year, and sent them backpacks for their communities, too! |

We had great fun at AMPed Learning Center in Troy last month. The kids were engaged and enjoyed watching an episode of The Good Eggs with Ms. Poach. We also made egg crafts, did puzzle sheets, and the kids loved their stickers and squishy eggs. Check out this organization - they have a ton to offer kids! |

NOW LET'S HEAR FROM OUR OCTOBER GOOD EGG! |

Mary Beth Lohman is the Director of Girls' Programming at Mercy Education Project in Detroit. Before coming to MEP, she taught middle school math, social studies, and science. Mary Beth joined the MEP Girls’ Program Staff in 2017. She enjoys being part of the student’s educational journey and helping them achieve their academic goals. |
I am starting my 8th program year as the Director of Girls’ Programming at Mercy Education Project (MEP). Our main focus is after school tutoring in Math or Reading for girls in grades 2-12 from September through May for one hour per week. |
We also offer college and career readiness, STEM club, field trips, and summer camps. I especially like planning our Emerging Leaders two-week summer camp because this camp gives our middle school students the opportunity to see their city and surrounding areas from a different perspective. Each day we explore, visit or are exposed to new people, places and careers. How do you know what you like or good at until you’ve been exposed to it? |
Leslie started at MEP when she was a shy second grader and remained part of our tutoring program until she graduated from high school. During her many years at MEP, not only was she involved in the tutoring program, but others as well. |
She was involved in LEGO robotics and college and career readiness. Now as a college student, she has come full circle by being one of our volunteer reading tutors. She said she volunteers because she wants to give back to MEP for all we have done to support her for many years. |
As our tutoring program continues to grow, challenges arise in finding enough tutors and substitute tutors for each student as well as having enough space for all of the student-tutor pairs. |
We strive to empower our students to succeed academically, personally, and socially. Our goal is to provide more than academic support, which is apparent when students tell us they feel like MEP is a home away from home. |
Mary Beth - thank you for sharing your story with us as you support your students with academic support and compassion! Your students are truly lucky to have you - enjoy your school year! |

See you in November! Kindly, Sandy Sandy (Ciaramitaro) Mals Author, Founder and President The Good Eggs Foundation The Good Eggs Media |
