Close Melrose on Sunday Afternoons?

This idea to close Melrose to vehicle traffic on Sunday afternoons was brought up by Captain Paulson as a way to cut down on Street Takeover and "Side Shows" by illegal motorcycle gangs.  What's YOUR opinion?

The Mid-City West Community Council STRUGGLES with a vote denouncing Anti-Semitic behavior!

It was amazing to see MORE THAN FORTY community stakeholders, (residents & neighbors) who showed up in support of this letter being written and came face to face with a Community Council TOO afraid to take a stand on this issue!  For more that 30 minutes before the meeting began, members of the public were each given 2 minutes  to speak about the importance of this letter.  When the topic came up on the agenda later, more than another 30 minutes was devoted (again 2 minutes per person) to public outcry and demands that OUR Community Council APPROVE this letter. But it wasn't that easy.  WHY? For a number of individual reasons provided by dissenting board members, the opposition to this letter didn't think it was something our Council should weigh in on. Those opposed seemed to feel it was too hot of a World Wide political issue for them to speak up about.

Finally, the vote comes to the floor after changes to the letter were voted on.  So, in a stick you head in the ground and ignore the obvious moment, 10 members of the board ABSTAINED from voting on this issue including our zone 2 representative. The issue did finally pass (21 yes, 1 no & 10 abstain) and the letter to our elected officials denouncing Anti-Semitic behavior or any type of racially motivated acts of violence in our neighborhood will be sent to our Mayor, County Supervisors and Councilmembers in the surrounding districts. Please email us if you'd like to see the final copy of the letter.

The outpouring of fear that was shared by the public at the meeting was meant to be intense. It's what many of us see and have to live with every time we leave our homes in Melrose Village now. The issue of being targeted for a violent act by one group for being a member of another group on our public streets is a very HOT issue right now.  It was gratifying to see so many of YOU show up, speak up and let this Neighborhood Community Council know who they are supposed to be representing.

WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE MCW COUNCIL TO ACT ON THIS: A Melrose Village Neighborhood Alliance member suggested to MCW President, Lauren Nichols that we should have a zoom meeting to discuss the issue of Building Density Bonuses. The idea is to have the meeting chaired by advocates on both sides of this issue. If you support this, please email lnichols@midcitywest.org and make your voice heard.

Melrose BID Crime Prevention Meeting

We have brought this up before, but feel it's worth mentioning again...

What brought you to sign up for our newsletters?  We want to believe it is because you wish to learn what's going on and to participate in advocating for a safer and cleaner neighborhood. Most of you who receive this email live in Zone 2 or are affected by what happens on Melrose.  This newsletter contains links to the meetings to sign up for the Melrose BID Crime meeting, most of the Mid City West Neighborhood Council meetings and the LAPD C-PAB meeting.

Here's the important part:  Neither the Melrose Bid or the MCWNC meetings have neighbors, referred to as 'stakeholders' attend very often.  Most of the sub-committees for MCWNC have NO 'stakeholders' attend.  So what happens when elected representatives get no input from those they are voted to represent?  They go off and turn their attention to their own pet projects instead of advocating for the people and the neighborhoods they serve!

So PLEASE get involved!  If you find a meeting topic below that you are interested in and if you can attend just ONE meeting to make a comment or offer support to someone making comment, it will make a difference!  Tell them you are part of The Melrose Village Neighborhood Alliance!
