In your weekly email, you can also expect a summary of relevant industry news.  This week, the tide seems to be shifting, and optimism about travel is prevailing in the news.

  • We reported from a Cornell School of Hotel Administration virtual panel of HR Execs that top lodging companies are bracing for a massive talent grab by the end of the year.
  • Starwood Capital CEO Barry Sternlicht, was on CNBC  this week saying “We see all of this pent-up demand coming back. It’s going to be a frenzy this summer,” and that one of his properties in Miami Beach “ahead in February of this year, ahead of 2019.”
  • The New York Times reported travel starved Americans will “literally book anywhere” citing a poll conducted by Amazing America, a website dedicated to the American road trip, which found that more than 75 percent of respondents believe it will be safe to travel this summer. (More than 68 percent said the pandemic has pushed them to choose domestic travel over international.)
  • Meanwhile, Reuters reports that in Europe an effort to ramp up vaccinations in the bloc to 420 million doses by mid-July has hopes up for a robust summer travel season.
