October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month |
A home is supposed to be one’s safe haven, but not every house is a home. Court statistics show that children are present during domestic or intimate partner violence incidents in 36% of cases; of those children who were present, 60% directly witnessed the violence. Children who grow up around domestic violence can believe it is normal, and often repeat the cycle of violence in their own adult lives. The support of a CASA volunteer can help children build resilience to counter these reoccurring cycles. Having a stable relationship with a supportive adult can help children do well, even they have faced significant hardships. CASA of the 18th JDC promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive. Change a child’s story today by becoming a CASA volunteer. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #ChangeAChildsStory |

How "sweet" is this donation?! |
Thank you, The Poboy House, for donating birthday cakes for our CASA children in West Baton Rouge Parish! Last night, a brother & sister, whose birthdays are very close, celebrated their birthdays with their CASA volunteer who brought them this sweet treat. The CASA was also able to select and bring each of them a special gift from our CASA Closet, made up of donated new toys, especially from the holiday toy drive hosted by Coburn Supply! Contact us if you're interested in creating a partnership to help our local children. |

ICYMI: CASA of the 18th JDC celebrates first full year in operation |
As I reflect on the past year, I am immensely proud of how far we've come and all that we have accomplished. There is still so much work to be done, but together with our board of directors, our donors, our volunteers and our community, we have already made a significant impact in the lives of those we serve - the most vulnerable children who need that one consistent person in their life. |
