From the Pastor’s Desk

“Now let Us conceive a new creation—humanity—made in Our image, fashioned according to Our likeness.”

As I write this note to you, we are in the final week of a 3-week sermon series on the Expansive Nature of God.  My hope is that during these 3 weeks, we may have been enticed to think a new thought and to consider our relationship with the Holy One.  My hope is that perhaps through the sacred texts and messages, we may have entered a new way of considering who God is and what God is up to in the world… and that we, God’s created ones, may have eyes for only a small part of what God is up to.  As I would never pretend to have the “final word” on such a thing, my hope is that perhaps the texts and the messages have prompted you to pray for your own clarity of the truth of the question that reigns eternal – “Who is God… to me?”

I have come to realize that the more “I know”, the more “I do NOT know!”  The more I learn, the more of a mystery to my limited understanding is the concept of the depth and breadth of God’s love for ALL creation.  You see, God made it all, and God continues to do just that – CREATE!  New species are discovered every year!  The world is not a stagnant place… rather God continues to make stuff… adapt stuff… and renew stuff! 

God is the God of second chances, of renewal, of reconciliation, and of inclusive love.  In my own understanding of God, I can only imagine a Divine Being that oozes Love and Light. 

Now, that vision has been born of countless conversations in prayer with The Holy One.   We have built a relationship.  Sometimes I am less than a good friend. At times I have come to the conversation stomping my feet and pouting like a child.  At other times, I have come with my heart broken beyond what I thought was repairable.  And, still at other times, I have come with tears of joy stinging my eyes unable to form words of gratitude because whatever I try to express seemed like it could never be enough.

You may have just read those words and thought “That is nothing like my image of God.  That is nothing like my relationship to The Holy One.” 

THAT’S GOOD!  You see, the very nature of God is so very expansive, that there is room for all of us!  Even when we are at our most divided, God sees beauty and love in all of us.  God calls us good.   

Jesus said it: “In my Father’s house, there are MANY rooms.” 

I am counting on that!

Gethsemane will be having a Bake Sale August 6th for Equipping the Saints! All donations can be brought in the day of the sale or Thursday August 3rd from 9am-12pm! Please join us for worship August 6th and enjoy some treats right after!

CANS FOR KIDS UPDATE!

Thank you to everyone who donated cans on our second rally can Sunday July 30th!

Our last rally can Sunday will be 8/27 please continue saving your cans to bring in on those dates. This drive directly supports our Sunday school kids.

Garden Parties!

Thank you to everyone that came out to the July Garden Parties! It looks like everyone had a blast with good food and good fellowship with one another! We do have two more dates available for August. Please send an email to office@gethsemane-elca.org or see Cindi after service on Sundays for reservations!

Gethsemane’s next craft fair will will October 21st!

Applications will be available August 10th!

This will be an indoor/outdoor event!

Family Fest, formerly Kid's Fest, is planned to take place here at Gethsemane on Saturday, August 19th from 1 to 5 PM.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the event, Family Fest is a community-oriented, family event with games, food, music, and fun for people of all ages.

We are planning on great turn out this year for Family Fest, we are looking for any members willing to let Gethsemane borrow tents, stakes, sandbags, and coolers for August 19th

We have a sign-up sheet in the Narthex! Please make sure to mark all your property with your name so we can make sure to get it back to you!

We appreciate everyone's help making this a wonderful event.

75th Anniversary

Thank you everyone who took part in donating for these events!

At Gethsemane we have so many wonderful talented people, the Busy Bee's is one of those groups that we are in awe of! For the 75th Anniversary this year the Busy Bee's will be auctioning off some quilts they have made! We will have the auction from August 1st and the winners will be announced on August 27th. The quilts can be viewed in the Narthex of our church, if you would like to bid you are welcome to comment or send a message on Facebook, or visit on Sunday!

Gethsemane has a new way to give!

Vanco makes church donations and member engagement easy for our community!

With Vanco you are able to choose from multiple giving platforms you will be able to see each cause and how your gift makes a difference! You can find the website by pulling up your camera on your phone and hovering it over this QR code:

Vanco Mobile app!

Vanco also provides us with a mobile app you can find this by using the QR code below downloading the app and you can either create a profile for when you give or give as a guest. This app allows us to not only make online giving easier but we will be able to engage with members and manage events from our phone!

Keep an eye out for more details we are really excited to implement this into our church and be able to utilize what Vanco has to offer!

Happy August Gethsemane Family!

I wish you all a beautiful August month!

We have initiated a new way of giving for Gethsemane. Vanco is an easier way to pinpoint how you would like your offering to be distributed. We have multiple tiles to choose from and this way you are able to create a sign in for yourself and give easily and look back at your past offerings. We will have more information soon on how to use this site and we also have an app you are able to download and utilize as well.

If you ever have a question about schedules or events coming up please check out Facebook, Gethsemane Website, we have our weekly “Here at Gethsemane” email and of course a paper copy in the front of the church. Or the Garden Notes ;)
