Topic 1 of 5: Go see a history-maker this year |
On October 2, 1974 (before most of you were born) I saw Elvis Presley in concert at the St Paul Civic Arena. At the time, I had little interest in his music (I was more of a Black Sabbath head banger), but Susan, my up-for-anything friend, wanted to go to the concert. Off we went on a weekend road trip. It was a fabulous adventure and over the years I came to enjoy Elvis' music in part because of the vivid recollection of that weekend adventure. Less than three years later, Elvis died at the age of 42. When I heard the news, I was bartending at a lowbrow family-owned supper club. To honor his memory I played Elvis on the jukebox for my entire 10 hour shift (at one point the owner came over and asked me if the juke box was stuck on repeat). Over time I came to cherish my connection with the King. Seeing Elvis in person allowed me to witness a bit of history that I have carried with me. Now it is my annual practice ... I go see at least one history-maker every year, be it musician, politician, athlete, or author. I recommend you consider adding this practice to your annual planning process. Go see a least one history-maker this coming year. As a starter for me, I have tickets to Scott Kelly (NASA Astronaut) and Metallica (Heavy metal music). Listen to Elvis perform "Blue Christmas" here. |

Topic 3 of 5: Member highlight: Patrick Gratitude |
From Patrick: I have been told my entire life that ‘life is not fair’ and ‘don’t expect anyone to ever give you anything, you have to go earn it’. I believe both of these statements to hold true most of the time. However, I was also raised to continually give thanks for my blessings and to be content with what I have. One of my favorite quotes is from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude." Great words to live by. |

Topic 4 of 5: Event highlight - Colorado alpine weekend and 14er adventure |
2023 Leadville Colorado: Join us in Colorado for our third annual Alpine Weekend. For those who want a challenge, we will try to summit a 14er (maybe more than one). But if that is not your thing, there many types of hikes and options for other alpine activities (including a session by Armando of nature meditation). And of course there will be socializing. This is MAC's signature member event of the year. Don't miss it. More info and RSVP here |
