Green and colourful, that's what May brings! Our maples are coming alive with gorgeous green leaves. Even our often-muddy parking lots are a vibrant green. The wildflowers are blooming and the blackflies are out; the mosquitoes will follow shortly! Ahhhh.... spring in the country.
The question I get asked is, what do you do now? Firstly, after 10 weeks of 7 days a week of non-stop activity, sitting down is a good start, catching up on all of the social fun, and hours of sorting also fills a lot of time.
Our post-season managers meeting was a celebration (and of course a potluck) and time to look back at the season to plan for 2019.
Mother's Day was fantastic. I spent time with the whole family (not all at the same time or place), had my first bike ride of the season and enjoyed a great supper of laughter and fun.
My biggest highlight in May was being part of an event to honour my husband Al Potvin for his many years of giving back to our community. Hub Hospice Palliative Care recognized Al on May 14 at Augusta Park with the planting of a Comfort Maple tree that will be a symbol of his legacy. You can read the full article here.
Scott, Brenda, Al and I, together with Triple Trouble (Parker, Tyson & Logan) sailed off to the Caribbean for a very fun-filled but relaxing cruise. When we asked Triple Trouble the highlight of the trip, they agreed the unlimited 5-star food, especially the desserts!
Family and community time returns, including birthdays, football, soccer, track, band, concerts, plays, crop planting, farmers markets and our Sunday School's amazing 'Cedar Hill's Got Talent' show, which was held at Pamela and Grant's Cedar Hill Christmas Tree Farm. A beautiful setting for a fun community event organized by our Zion Sunday School kids. They raised $1477 for CHEO. They will be presenting that and all the other money they have fundraised over the year at the 2018 CHEO Telethon. I am so proud of our supportive, generous Cedar Hill community.
Business-wise I hopped on and off a bus full of Mississippi Mills business owners 23 times on May 28. We visited 23 businesses, museums, attractions, accommodations, a brewery and a distillery all in Mississippi Mills. At lunch we were briefed on all the events that will be happening over the summer-- every weekend there are amazing art shows and music, puppet, bus and cycle themed events. Check out the Mississippi Mills Bicycle Movement and the Facebook page Things to Do in Mississippi Mills. Come Wander this summer through this amazing community.
I hope everyone is looking forward to a great summer. Enjoy your garden's bounty or visit your local Farmers Market or Indian Creek Orchard Gardens for some produce. I wish our farmers just the right amount of rain, sunshine and heat units to produce abundant crops.
Sweet maple wishes to you,
